Adelphi man scores $150,000 Powerball prize

Adelphi man’s lucky number 24 lands him $150,000 Powerball prize

by Local News Report

An Adelphi man’s affinity for the number 24 paid off when a Powerball drawing turned his $2 ticket into a $150,000 windfall.

The winning ticket, purchased at a 7-Eleven on Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale, matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball 24 in the June 21 drawing. By adding the $1 Power Play option, the prize tripled from $50,000 to $150,000.

The winner, who claimed his prize Wednesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, said he typically chooses his own numbers but opted for a quick-pick ticket after noticing his lucky number. He said he plans to invest most of the money and will celebrate the win by taking his wife out to dinner, though she was skeptical of his claim until seeing the oversized check.

The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday with an estimated annuity jackpot of $410 million and a cash option of $184.9 million.
