A 53-year-old Utica man was arrested Monday after fleeing from police during a narcotics operation in the Oneida Square area and attempting to hide in the basement of a nearby home.
According to the Utica Police Department, officers with the Special Investigations Unit were conducting a targeted operation on July 28 around 1:25 p.m. when they attempted to stop Nicky Woods in connection with an ongoing drug investigation. Woods ran from officers on foot and entered a residence in the area, where he was later found hiding in the basement.
Woods was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Utica Police Department. He has been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, relating to both sale and weight, and one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
The arrest is part of a broader effort to address drug trafficking in the Oneida Square neighborhood, which has been the focus of recent investigations.
