Hillary Clinton says she’d back Trump for Nobel Peace Prize if he ends Ukraine war

WASHINGTON, DC – In a rare show of political crossfire unity, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she would nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he could broker a fair deal to end the war in Ukraine.

Speaking Wednesday on the “Raging Moderates” podcast, Clinton addressed the upcoming summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled for Friday in Anchorage, Alaska.

She said she would not personally meet with Putin but acknowledged that Trump’s position required engaging with Moscow.

Clinton, Trump’s 2016 presidential rival, said she was well aware of his interest in the prestigious international award and framed her challenge around concrete conditions for peace. She outlined a path in which Trump would demand a ceasefire, refuse any exchange of Ukrainian territory, and insist on the gradual withdrawal of Russian forces from occupied areas.

Calling the Alaska summit “an opportunity” for the former president to make his stance clear, Clinton urged that U.S. policy should avoid any perception of aiding Russian territorial ambitions. She said if Trump successfully engineered such an agreement, she would formally submit his name for Nobel consideration.

The hastily arranged meeting between Trump and Putin comes amid heightened international pressure for a resolution to the 18-month conflict, which has cost thousands of lives and displaced millions across Eastern Europe.

While Clinton’s remarks were framed as a conditional endorsement, they underscored the magnitude of the diplomatic hurdle Trump faces in any attempt to secure lasting peace in Ukraine.
