Trenton, NJ — New Jersey kicks off the week with mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of early morning showers, but forecasters are monitoring a developing hurricane system that could brush the coast Wednesday night, bringing potential rain and gusty winds to parts of the state.

Today’s outlook includes a 20 percent chance of light showers before 9 a.m., followed by dry but cloudy conditions and a high near 74 degrees. Winds from the northeast will remain steady around 15 miles per hour, with occasional gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour, creating a breezy start to the week.

Tonight, skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 63 degrees. Winds will shift slightly from the east at 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 75 degrees, with calm and consistent easterly winds around 10 miles per hour. The night will remain dry and partly cloudy, with a low near 63.

On Wednesday, conditions improve with a high near 79 and partly sunny skies. However, by Wednesday night, a hurricane currently churning in the Atlantic may pass close enough to the New Jersey coast to trigger a slight increase in rain chances. The current forecast holds a 20 percent chance of showers late Wednesday, although most models keep the system offshore with limited impacts expected.

Thursday marks the start of a clear and warmer pattern. The day will be mostly sunny with highs near 81 degrees, continuing into a dry Thursday night with a low around 61.

Friday brings more sun and a high near 83, with another mild evening ahead and partly cloudy skies. Temperatures are forecast to remain steady in the lower 60s overnight.

The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the hurricane’s track in the coming days, as any shift westward could increase rain or wind threats along the coast.
