GAITHERSBURG, MD — A Germantown woman was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road, Montgomery County police said.

Detectives identified the victim as 71-year-old Mary Elizabeth Moody.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. when Moody, driving a white 2018 Subaru, attempted to turn left onto eastbound Mateny Road from southbound Great Seneca Highway. Investigators said a black 2021 Mazda traveling northbound on Great Seneca Highway struck the Subaru, causing it to roll over and eject Moody.

Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel pronounced Moody dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. The Mazda driver, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The Montgomery County Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 240-773-6620.
