BALTIMORE, MD – A local tattoo artist struck it big after purchasing a Joker’s Wild scratch-off ticket at G&A Food Market on Druid Hill Avenue, winning a $50,000 top prize.

The winner bought the ticket after noticing the store clerk opening a new book of scratch-offs, which he took as a lucky sign. He scratched the ticket in the store and was thrilled to discover he had matched 10 numbers for the grand prize.

He plans to use the money to buy a new car and pay off bills, keeping the news mostly to himself for now.

The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $500 bonus, and only one top prize remains for the Joker’s Wild game.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former leaders of the Los Zetas cartel were arraigned in Washington, D.C., on charges including drug trafficking, firearm offenses, money laundering, and multiple murder conspiracies, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

Miguel Treviño Morales, 52, known as “Z-40,” and Omar Treviño Morales, 48, known as “Z-42,” allegedly led Los Zetas, a violent cartel formed by former Mexican military officers. Authorities say Miguel Treviño Morales took control of the organization in 2012 until his arrest in 2013, after which his brother assumed leadership until his own arrest in 2015.

Prosecutors allege the brothers continued running the cartel—later renamed the Cartel del Noreste (CDN)—while incarcerated in Mexico. The cartel is accused of drug trafficking, kidnappings, murders, assassinations, and acts of torture.

Both men face charges of continuing a criminal enterprise, conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana, using firearms in drug trafficking, and international money laundering. The charges carry a potential maximum sentence of death or life imprisonment.

The U.S. had long sought their extradition, which was granted by Mexico on Feb. 27.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ (OP-ED) – There must be some ‘wacky tobaccy’ being passed around Middletown as GOP school board member Jacqueline Tobacco, who has been stumping for Jack Ciattarelli chose to pick a fight with Ciattarelli’s opponent, Bill Spadea.

Tobacco, who has been openly politicking for Jack Ciattarelli, slammed Spadea for a discussion on his now defunct television show “Chasing News”, where he spoke to a guest panel about vaccine mandates in schools.

When talking to the dissenting panelist, Spadea asked a devil’s advocate question, to provoke a response.

“Isn’t it…on the other side, two, where is the conversation about just saying schools and public places can say, look, if you haven’t been immunized, you don’t have your shots, you can’t come,” Spadea said, asking the theoretical question.

Throughout the entire segment, Spadea maintained his opposition against the vaccine mandate.

However, Tobacco took a well-timed cut from that segment to make it appear that Spadea was calling for schools and businesses to block the non-immunized. If you watch the entire clip, you will see that this is not what happened. It was a talk show host trying to get a dissenting opinion to speak on the topic.

X users came to Spadea’s defense, and he called Tobacco a ‘fraud’.

The Middletown School Board is embroiling itself in political beefs across the Jersey Shore, all while a coach had sex with a student and the district is being sued for the suicide of a young teen. Maybe Tobacco should focus more on the kids in Middletown and less on working the campaign for Jack Ciattarelli.

“She’s a fraud. Ignore the noise,” Spadea said to the hyperpartisan school board official, who allegedly used to be a book reviewer. More on that later.

“It is just indicative of his true character—wanting mandates and punishments like high insurance premiums for people who don’t think the way he does?” Tobacco said. “That kind of thinking is what you should fear. It is also a perfect response to Bill’s constant abuse of Jack for getting the Covid vax…which was 5 years ago…no gaslighting here just another character reveal.”

NEW JERSEY – In a tense showdown on Capitol Hill, New Jersey Senators Andy Kim and Cory Booker stood firm in their opposition to a controversial government funding bill, casting “no” votes in a bid to halt what they described as a dangerous surrender of congressional power.

Despite their efforts, the measure—labeled by critics as a “hyper-partisan” capitulation to the Trump administration—passed the Senate late Friday evening, averting a government shutdown but sparking outrage among its detractors.

The bill, which congressional Republicans billed as a “Continuing Resolution” to keep the government funded, drew sharp criticism from Senators Kim and Booker, who argued it went far beyond a routine budgetary stopgap. In a statement, Senator Booker rejected the characterization outright, declaring, “I will not support what congressional Republicans are calling a ‘Continuing Resolution’ because it’s not. It is a surrendering of the powers of Congress to the president and Elon Musk.” Booker’s remarks pointed to concerns over the influence of billionaire Elon Musk, a prominent figure in the Trump orbit, whose role in shaping policy has become a lightning rod in recent debates.

Senator Kim echoed these sentiments, framing the bill as a betrayal of American families in favor of wealthy elites.

“This hyper-partisan funding bill is a setback for our country and a win for the millionaires and billionaires the Trump administration is working for,” Kim said. He highlighted the broader implications of the vote, warning that “as Republicans gear up to gut Medicaid and take money from our schools, this can and will not be the last time this Congress has the chance to stand up against this lawlessness.”

Kim claimed the stakes for vulnerable communities, particularly in New Jersey, where constituents have voiced alarm over potential cuts to social programs.

Despite the impassioned resistance from Kim, Booker, and a number of Democrat senators, their attempt to derail the bill fell short.

The Senate vote, finalized just hours before a midnight deadline, saw the measure pass with bipartisan support, though the exact tally remained fluid as negotiations continued into the evening. The outcome handed a victory to President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and their allies, who hailed the bill as a necessary compromise to keep government operations running.

Kim, however, struck a defiant tone in the aftermath, signaling that the fight was far from over. “As President Trump, Elon Musk, and Speaker Johnson celebrate dismantling so much of what truly makes our country great, I’m focused on how we heal our country and deliver for Americans’ needs,” he said. He also acknowledged the outpouring of public concern, noting, “To the thousands of New Jerseyans and people across the country who called my office and any office this week, know that I heard you and as we keep standing up to these power grabs I will always be listening.”

The passage of the bill has intensified an already polarized political climate, with social media posts from X reflecting a mix of frustration and resolve among New Jersey residents. Some praised Kim and Booker for their principled stance, while others expressed dismay at the Senate’s inability to block what they see as an overreach by the Trump administration. The debate has also fueled speculation about the role of influential figures like Musk, whose growing presence in policy discussions has unsettled traditional power dynamics in Washington.

The suit Andy Kim wore to cast his dissenting vote will probably not end up in the Smithsonian.

HOUSTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported a Mexican national Thursday who had been removed from the U.S. six times and amassed multiple convictions for driving while intoxicated and theft, officials said.

Leticia Caballero Guadarrama, 53, was transported from the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas, to the Laredo Port of Entry, where she was turned over to Mexican authorities.

Caballero had illegally entered the U.S. at least six times, with prior deportations in 2003, 2009, 2010, and most recently in 2025. She also has 14 criminal convictions, including six for DWI and six for theft or larceny.

Her DWI convictions date back to 2004, with the most recent occurring in June 2024. Her theft convictions spanned nearly two decades, with the latest in 2021. She was also twice convicted of refusing to provide identification to law enforcement.

ICE officials criticized Caballero’s repeated disregard for U.S. immigration laws and criminal offenses. “The level of disrespect that this criminal alien has shown for our system of laws is shocking,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford.

Authorities emphasized that her removal is part of ongoing efforts to deport individuals with extensive criminal records who pose a threat to public safety.

MIAMI — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a 71-year-old Cuban national in Florida for allegedly obtaining legal status in the U.S. through fraudulent means, officials announced Thursday.

Tomas Emilio Hernandez Cruz, of West Park, was taken into custody at his residence following an investigation by ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the FBI. Authorities said he misrepresented his background when applying for Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) status.

The investigation, launched in September 2023, uncovered inconsistencies in Hernandez Cruz’s immigration application. Officials determined he had held various high-level positions within Cuban intelligence but concealed his affiliation with the Cuban Communist Party to mislead U.S. authorities.

“Hernandez Cruz knowingly and willfully withheld his true position and profession,” ICE stated, adding that the deception was intended to fraudulently obtain legal residency.

Following his arrest, Hernandez Cruz was processed and remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

NEW YORK —June Rose, the Chief of Staff to the Providence City Council President, was reportedly arrested on Thursday, March 13, during a protest inside Trump Tower in New York City. The demonstration, organized by the activist group Jewish Voice for Peace, aimed to denounce the recent immigration arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, a prominent pro-Palestinian activist and former Columbia University graduate student who led protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza.

According to posts on X and local reports, Rose was among nearly 100 protesters detained by the New York Police Department after the group filled the Trump Tower lobby, chanting slogans like “Bring Mahmoud home now!” and displaying banners with messages such as “Jews say stop arming Israel.”

Rose says he grew up an Orthodox Jew.

“I’ll use every moment to fight for an immediate ceasefire and an arms embargo. I grew up an Orthodox Jew. For 2/3 of my life, I believed the occupation was necessary for my safety,” he said recently on X.

The protesters, many wearing red shirts, were issued warnings to disperse before police moved in, arresting 98 individuals on charges including trespassing, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Rose’s specific charges remain unclear at this time, and the Providence City Council has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

This is not Rose’s first encounter with law enforcement during a protest. In June 2024, Rose was arrested in Washington, D.C., while participating in a demonstration against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress.

That protest, also aligned with pro-Palestinian causes, highlighted Rose’s history of activism on issues related to Israel and Palestine. Identifying as nonbinary and queer, Rose has been an outspoken figure in Providence’s political scene, serving as a Democratic delegate to the Democratic National Convention and a key aide to the City Council President.

The Trump Tower protest stemmed from the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on March 8, 2025, outside his New York City apartment. Khalil, a permanent U.S. resident married to an American citizen, faces deportation despite not being charged with any crime. His detention has sparked outrage among activists, who view it as an attack on free speech and a signal of the Trump administration’s intent to crack down on campus dissent. President Donald Trump has publicly stated that Khalil’s arrest is the “first of many to come,” targeting what he calls “pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, anti-American activity” among students.

TRENTON, N.J. — Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco accused New Jersey Democrats of deflecting blame for rising energy costs, arguing that their policies have driven up prices and jeopardized reliability.

Bucco’s comments came in response to a leaked memo in which Democrats reportedly blamed Republicans, utility companies, and regulatory agencies for impending electricity rate hikes. New Jersey residents are expected to see a 20% increase in electric bills this summer, following previous spikes last year.

“This leaked memo from Democrats highlights the self-serving nature of today’s politics,” Bucco said. “It’s appalling that Democrats are attempting to shift the blame onto others, rather than confronting their own failed policies that have led us to this crisis.”

Bucco argued that Republican lawmakers have long advocated for a balanced energy policy that prioritizes affordability and reliability alongside environmental goals. He criticized Democrats for pushing an “extreme” Energy Master Plan (EMP), first introduced by Governor Phil Murphy in 2019, which he claims destabilized the power grid and increased costs.

At a recent Senate Oversight hearing, a Democratic senator warned of public outrage over the rising energy bills, saying, “There’s going to be thousands of people with pitchforks and tar looking to tar and feather whoever they think is responsible for this.” Bucco responded by saying Democrats should “look in the mirror” for the consequences of their policies.

In March 2024, Bucco and Sen. Tiver introduced the “Energy Security and Affordability Act,” which would require the Board of Public Utilities to consider energy security, diversity, and affordability when preparing the state’s Energy Master Plan. The bill also calls for an economic impact analysis of energy projects.

NEWARK, N.J. — Migrants seeking to escape justice have been flocking to New Jersey in recent years to take advantage of Governor Phil Murphy’s sanctuary state, but the rules are quickly changing.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested a Guatemalan national with a prior vehicular homicide conviction for illegally reentering the United States.

Ismael Efrain Lopez-Bautista, 43, was apprehended on March 11 in Vineland, New Jersey. He had previously been convicted in 2014 of death by auto or vessel and sentenced to seven years in prison.

Lopez-Bautista was deported in 2019 but was arrested again in 2020 while attempting to cross the border in Arizona.

He served a 15-month sentence for illegal reentry before being removed again in 2022.

ICE officials say he is now being prosecuted in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
