All 11 victims of Italian glacier collapse identified, authorities say

ROME – Italian police on Saturday confirmed 11 people died when a glacier collapsed in the Alps in an incident being blamed on rising temperatures.

Rescue teams had feared a 12th person could have been killed, but now say there is no reason to believe the toll will be higher.

The Fassa Valley was holding a day of mourning to honour those who killed in the avalanche on Sunday on the Marmolada, which at more than 3,300 metres (10,830 feet) is the highest peak in the Dolomites, a range in the eastern Italian Alps straddling the regions of Trento and Veneto.

Much of Italy has been hit by an early-summer heatwave and scientists said climate change was making previously stable glaciers more unpredictable.

“We can say we have been very quick in completing our work and reaching a final tally of 11 deaths,” Giampietro Lago, the head of a scientific police unit drafted to help with the identification process, told a news conference.

Syria’s Assad makes first visit to Aleppo since recapture

BEIRUT – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad marked the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha on Saturday in Aleppo, his first visit to the northern city since his forces recaptured it in 2016 with help from Russia and other allied forces.

A statement by Syrian state news agency SANA said Assad performed Eid al-Adha prayers at the Ibn Abbas mosque alongside other top government officials.

In his remarks, Assad said he visited historic marketplaces and inaugurated a thermal power plant that is expected to generate 200 megawatts of electricity, according to SANA.

The city produced 1,000 megawatts of power before the fighting erupted there in 2012, one year into the uprising against Assad.

His forces recaptured the city in late 2016 with help from Russian warplanes and Iran-backed armed groups. Tehran then signed a deal to rehabilitate five power plants in Aleppo.

Much of the city’s infrastructure had been left in ruins by the fighting, which also ravaged the Old City – a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After Crushing Defeat, Ginny Haines Caught Emptying Out GOP Headquarters in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Ocean County Commissioner Virginia Haines is still a Republican, but on Thursday night, the elder stateswoman was seen with a male subject emptying items from the Ocean County GOP Headquarters on Main Street in Toms River.

It’s unsure why Haines, who is an RNC Committeewoman would be emptying her belongings from the building, but told witnesses she was only taking personal property.

Haines was spotted along with an unknown elderly male bringing boxes and items out of the GOP county headquarters building late Thursday night.

The incident happened shortly after George Gilmore won the election to become the new Ocean County GOP Chairman, defeating Sheriff Michael Mastronardy.

The odd incident unfolded as Haines is still a candidate for re-election for county commissioner under the GOP banner. She is still a member of the Ocean County GOP and a candidate for office in 2022, according to the organization’s website and Facebook page.

Rumors that Haines removed the “G” keys on computer keyboards in the building were unfounded. New GOP Chairman George Gilmore refused to comment on the incident.

The incident was just one of many bizarre events that unfolded in the hours after the GOP county committee voted to oust leadership aligned with Frank B. Holman, Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill, and New Jersey Assemblyman Greg McGuckin.

The Ocean County GOP opened the Main Street headquarters in 2020. No police reports were filed in the incident.

Haines did not respond for comment on this story.

Overnight Double Shooting Leaves Two in Critical Condition in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD – Two men were shot overnight in Baltimore and both are listed in critical condition. According to police, at approximately 12:34 a.m., Southwest District patrol officers were called to the 2500 block of West Fairmount Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Once there, officers located a 32-year-old male and a 37-year-old male both suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals where they are listed in critical condition.

Due to the victim’s injuries, Homicide detectives are investigating.

Baltimore police said at approximately 12:43 a.m. this morning, Southeast District patrol officers responded to the 4800 block of Eastern Avenue for a report of a shooting. Once there, officers located a 32-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

16-Year-Old Columbus Boy Wanted for Murder

COLUMBUS, OH – A 16-year-old male from Columbus is wanted by police for the Wednesday morning murder of Nelson Conley, Jr. Police are searching for wanted fugitive Keith T. Waddell, a black male who is currently in hiding, according to the Columbus Police Department.

According to police, on July 6, at approximately 10:57 am, officers were dispatched to the 1000 Block of Ellsworth Ave on the report of a shooting.  

“Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, Nelson E. Conley Jr., suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” police said. “CFD EMS 10 arrived at the scene and pronounced Mr. Conley deceased at 11:05 am.”

The suspect in this Homicide was identified as Keith T. Waddell M/B 16.

“A warrant has been issued for his arrest in the murder of Nelson E. Conley Jr.,” police said.

17-Year-Old Shot and Killed in Spring Valley Apartment Parking Lot

SPRING VALLEY, NY – A 17-year-old male was shot and killed in a parking lot at the Meadow Lane apartment complex.

According to police, early Friday morning, at 2:30 am, officers responded to the parking lot of 150 West Eckerson Rd, for a report of a male who had been shot.

“Arriving officers immediately found a young man suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. They attempted life-saving medical attention which was continued by medical personnel who arrived shortly thereafter,” police said.

The young man, now known to be a seventeen-year-old Spring Valley resident, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital via ambulance where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Man Shot and Killed in Brooklyn While Stopped at Red Light

NEW YORK, NY – A man was shot and killed by a gunman in Brooklyn Wednesday night while his vehicle was stopped at a red light near Classon Avenue and Atlantic Avenue. The man, a passenger in a Jeep driven by a female driver was shot multiple times, according to the New York City Police Department.

According to police, at 10:50 pm., the gunman approached a vehicle where the victim was a passenger. The woman, in an attempt to flee the suspect crashed the vehicle. The suspect chased the car, shooting at the passenger multiple times killing him with shots to the chest and leg. The suspect fled the scene.

Two Women, Young Girl Shot at Multiple Times Overnight in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA – Two people were shot multiple times and two others were injured after a gunman opened fire on Oak Hill Drive in Terrace Village.

At around 12:38 am, police said at least 12 shots were fired, detected by the city’s ShotSpotter alert system. Upon arrival officers discovered two people were shot and two other people were otherwise injured at the scene. All four were transported to local hospitals.

The victims were a juvenile female, two adult females, and an adult male, all in stable conditions.

The Mobile Crime Unit and VCU arrived and processed the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Greenbelt City Police Searching for Suspects in Carjacking

GREENBELT CITY, MD – Police in Greenbelt City are searching for suspects believed to have committed an armed carjacking on Wednesday. Today, the department released pictures of several individuals ‘of interest’ in the crime.

According to police, on Wednesday, at 10:01 pm, the carjacking took place on Hanover Parkway. A delivery food driver was carjacked by four males wearing all black and black face masks armed with a handgun. The victim’s blue Toyota Corolla was taken.

15-Year-Old Shot in Shootout at Severn Playground

SEVERN, MD – A shootout at a playground in Meade Village Circle ended with a 15-year-old shot and teens running for cover Thursday night. The shooting began when a vehicle drove up to the playground and four black males began firing their guns. At least one person in the playground returned fire.

At around 12:50 pm, police began to receive reports of multiple shots fired in the 8100 block of Meade Village Circle in Severn.

“Upon arrival, officers learned that a group of four black males arrived in a dark SUV and began shooting toward the playground,” police said. “A 15-year-old male was struck and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police said a person on the playground returned fire on the original suspects and fled the scene.

Detectives located multiple shell casings. Several buildings were damaged by projectiles during the shooting.

Western District detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information on either shooting suspect to contact 410-222-6155. Detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence and was a targeted incident.

Man Arrested for Fatal Double Stabbing in Jersey City Captured in Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – A Jersey City man, Joshua Gonzalez, 24, was arrested by the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force in the area of Franklin Street in Bloomfield on Thursday.

According to police, Gonzalez was wanted in connection with the double stabbing on July 5, in Jersey City that left one man dead and one woman injured. Police said Gonzalez violated a restraining order during the attack.

Following his arrest, Gonzalez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his First Appearance.

Police reports show that on Tuesday, July 5, at approximately 6:42 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to Clinton Avenue on reports of an aggravated assault.

“Responding officers found a 22-year-old woman with a serious apparent stab wound. The woman was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where she remains in stable condition.” Prosector Esther Suarez said in a statemnt. “At approximately 10:00 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified that an injured person was located at 186 McAdoo Avenue.”

Responding officers found the lifeless body of a man — later identified as Jason Khusial, 21, of Jersey City — with multiple apparent stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:14 a.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of death to be multiple sharp force wounds to the torso and the Manner of death to be homicide.

West Rocks MiddleSchool Teacher Arrested for Reckless Endangerment of Student

NORWALK, CT – Police in Norwalk today have announced the arrest of West Rock Middle School teacher York Mario. Mario was arrested for reckless endangerment of a student and released on a $5,000 bond.

According to police, an investigation was initiated on November 11, 2021, when a student at West Rocks Middle School reported that he was mistreated by Mr. Mario.


Detective Kristina La Pak of the Norwalk Police Department Special Victims Unit assumed the case and worked together with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to conduct a thorough investigation,” police reported. “The investigation revealed that on October 29, 2021, Mario grabbed a student by his shoulder, while he was sitting in a chair, and pulled him causing the student to fall to the ground. Mario then dragged the student across the room while the student clung to another desk. Part of the incident was captured on video by another student.”

After consultation with the Stamford Superior Court an arrest warrant was submitted and signed, charging Mr. Mario with Risk of Injury and Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree.

Woman Stabbed Multiple Times During Fight At College Park Apartment Building

NEWARK, DE – A fight between two a man and a woman inside a Newark apartment complex ended in a stabbing and both participants behind bars on Monday.

According to police, on July 4, at around 3:30 am, the department was notified by an area hospital that a female victim arrived suffering from multiple injuries caused by a knife. 

Newark Police located the crime scene in the unit block of O’Daniel Avenue.

“The investigation at the scene determined that a female victim arrived at a residence to meet with Chakeir Ford-Hopkins, 22, of Bear.  Ford-Hopkins and the victim are known to each other.  An altercation occurred between the victim, Ford-Hopkins and a female resident identified as Dymesha Gary, 23,” the Newark Police Department said. “During the course of the altercation, Ford-Hopkins punched the victim in the head.  Gary then introduced a knife and cut the victim multiple times in the head, arms and hand.  The victim was transported to an area hospital by private automobile suffering from serious physical injuries.”

  The victim has since been released from the hospital.

After completion of the investigation by Newark Police detectives, warrants were obtained for the arrest of Ford-Hopkins and Gary, police reported.

On Thursday, Newark Police executed a search warrant at Gary’s residence.  Both Ford-Hopkins and Gary were taken into custody without incident.  During the course of the search, two firearms and ammunition were located in the residence.  Ford-Hopkins is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

19-Year-Old Shot and Killed in Camden

Camden, N.J.– A 19-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night in Camden and police are still searching for a suspect.

According to police, Malik Nath, 19, was found shot by officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert in the neighborhood in the vicinity of South 8th Street.

Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez said on Thursday, at around 10:02 p.m., officers from the Camden County Metro Police Department responded to the 1900 block of South 8th Street, Camden, New Jersey, in reference to a ShotSpotter activation and 911 calls for an individual who was shot. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Nath was pronounced deceased by Dr. Chovanes at approximately 10:22 p.m. on June 7, 2022.

Union Homicide Investigators Continue Working Cold Case Murder of Amber Duncan-Wilson

The Union County Homicide Task Force and Linden Police Department continue to investigate the shooting death of an 18-year-old Linden woman who was killed ten years ago, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Linden Police Chief David Hart jointly announced today.

At 11:55 p.m. on July 9, 2012 the Linden Police were called to the 500 block of Hussa Street following reports of an argument and gunfire, said Daniel. When they arrived, officers discovered 18 –year-old Amber Duncan-Wilson dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.

Members of the Task Force and Linden Police Department learned that Ms. Wilson was walking from a local Dunkin’ Donuts with a friend when she was approached and robbed. During the robbery, words were exchanged and the young woman, who had graduated Linden High School just days earlier, was shot.

Ms. Wilson was a young, ambitious woman, who had a meaningful life ahead of her,” Prosecutor Daniel said. “Sadly, that life was senselessly lost at such a young age and we remain as firmly committed today as we did ten years ago in finding this cold-blooded killer and to bringing justice for her and her loved ones.”

Investigators continue to seek leads and ask for the public’s help in obtaining any information that could assist in solving this tragic case. Robert G. Synnott, 59 of Brigantine, NJ was arrested by Ofc. Steven Garrison and charged with DWI, Possession of CDS, Attempt to Elude Police and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on June 29.

Kelli N. Feaster, 33 of Egg Harbor City, NJ was arrested by Ofc. William Warrell and charged with Assault on a Health Care Worker on June 28.

Three Juveniles Escaped from State Facility and Committed a Carjacking in Rockville

ROCKVILLE, MD – The Rockville Police Department has arrested and charged three juveniles for a carjacking they committed on Thursday after leaving a state facility without permission.

According to police, all three had been committed to the Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (RICA) and left the facility without authorization.

On Thursday, at approximately 1:30 p.m., 6th District officers responded to the 14800 block of Physicians Lane for a carjacking that just occurred.

“The adult male victim was sitting in his parked silver Honda CRV when one of the suspects approached and implied that he had a weapon,” the Montgomery County Police Department reported. “During this time, patrol officers received notification of three runaways from RICA, which is located one mile from the carjacking scene.”

Then, at around 8 pm, officers located the vehicle parked on Southview Drive, in Oxon Hill, MD and observed the suspects near the Honda CRV.

Officers stopped the suspects and determined that they were the three juveniles that had gone missing from RICA. They were all arrested and charged with carjacking.

All three were returned to the custody of the Montgomery County Department of Juvenile Services.

24 Year-Old Shot In Face in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – The Baltimore Police is investigating a shooting that happened last night in Southeast Baltimore. This incident happened on the 400 Block of North Port Street.

According to police, “At approximately 10:14 p.m., Southeast District patrol officers responded to the 400 block of North Port Street for a report of a shooting. Once there, officers located a 24 year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the face. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Southeast District detectives are investigating this incident.”

Here’s What You’re Not Allowed To Do on Asbury Park Beaches

ASBURY PARK, NJ – When you visit the Jersey Shore, you’re invited to come down and have a good time, but visitors should know the rules before they come. In Asbury Park, police will be enforcing quality of life issues that are affecting beachgoers.

“The Asbury Park Police Department would like to remind everyone that certain activities/items are prohibited on the beach in order to make a day at the beach enjoyable and safe for everyone.”

Here are some of the things you can’t do on the beach in Asbury Park:

  • Fires on the beach
  • Tents on the beach (larger than 30” tall, 36” deep and 48” wide are prohibited)
  • Smoking or vaping (beach or boardwalk)
  • Dogs on the beach (certain beaches and times are permitted)
  • Bicycles on the boardwalk (allowed between midnight and 10am, allowed only on south side of Convention Hall)
  • Officers will be monitoring and addressing these issues

Police Seeking Road Rage Driver Who Stabbed Pregnant Woman with Screwdriver in Broad Daylight

NEW YORK, NY – Traffic stopped on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx last month when a man got out of a car and beat a 26-year-old pregnant woman with a wrench, according to police, in broad daylight. The incident happened at around 5:20 pm when the unknown male repeatedly struck the pregnant woman, stopping traffic.

Police still haven’t found the suspect, but on Friday, released a video of the attack. The victim, Alice Gainer later said the weapon appeared to be a screwdriver and she was stabbed in the neck. She said the driver was provoked because Gainer wouldn’t allow him to cut in front of her in heavy traffic.

38-Year-Old Woman Stabbed Inside Hyattsville Apartment, Suspect in Custody

HYATTSVILLE, MD – A 38-year-old woman is dead, and her attacker, her own brother is behind bars after a stabbing in Hyattsville on Thursday.

Police said 34-year-old Timothy Edwards was charged with the murder of his sister. The suspect is 34-year-old Timothy Edwards of the unincorporated area of Hyattsville, Maryland. He is charged with fatally stabbing 38-year-old Nashanna Belnavis.

According to police, on Thursday, at approximately 4:50 pm, patrol officers responded to the 2000 block of Oglethorpe Street for a call of unknown trouble. 

“When they arrived, they discovered Belnavis unresponsive inside of an apartment suffering from trauma to the body.  She was pronounced dead on scene,” The Prince George’s County Police Department said. “The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and victim were siblings. For reasons that remain under investigation, the suspect fatally stabbed the victim.”

Edwards is charged with first- and second-degree murder along with assault charges. He is in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.
