Today, congressional leaders said current Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle should resign in the same manner that Stuart Knight did in 1981, months after the failed assassination attempt on former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Knight’s tenure with the Secret Service included notable assignments and responsibilities. Between the late 1960s and early 1970s, he worked on counterfeit money cases in Los Angeles and Washington. In 1971, he transitioned to the Secret Service for Administration, serving as an assistant director for over two years before being appointed the 15th Director on November 7, 1973.

As director, Knight was responsible for planning the protection of President Richard Nixon during his visit to the Middle East in 1974. In 1975, he oversaw the Secret Service during the assassination attempts on President Gerald Ford in Sacramento and San Francisco. By 1980, he remained director under President Jimmy Carter and continued in this role during the attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan in March 1981. Knight retired from his position in November 1981, having served under eight U.S. presidents throughout his career.

Knight, retired Director of the United States Secret Service, died on Monday, September 7, 2009, following an extended illness. He was 88 years old.

Mr. Knight was appointed as the 15th Director of the U.S. Secret Service on November 7, 1973, and served for eight years. During his tenure, he oversaw the expansion of Secret Service training and the modernization of the agency’s management techniques. He retired on November 30, 1981, concluding a 31-year career.

“Director Knight provided exemplary leadership to this agency. His work leaves an indelible mark on the Secret Service which will serve as a lasting legacy in his honor,” said Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan.

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, on January 6, 1921, Mr. Knight moved with his family to Detroit, Michigan, where he grew up. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. After the war, he completed his undergraduate studies in criminal justice at Michigan State University in 1948 and served as a police officer in Berkeley, California.

Mr. Knight began his Secret Service career in 1950 as a special agent in the Detroit Field Office. His career included assignments in the Presidential Protective Division, the Los Angeles Field Office, and the Office of Inspection. He also held supervisory positions such as Special Agent in Charge for the Vice Presidential Protective Division, the Washington Field Office, and the Special Investigations Division. Before becoming director, he served as Assistant Director of the Office of Administration.

BRONX, NY — Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark has announced that 34-year-old Kemoy Royal of Pratt Avenue, Bronx, has been sentenced to 34 years to life in prison. Royal was convicted for raping two women and sexually assaulting a third within his Eastchester apartment over a six-day period.

Bronx Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Zimmerman handed down the sentence today, which includes 17 years to life for Predatory Sexual Assault, 10 years for first-degree Rape, and 7 years for Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the first degree, all to be served consecutively.

Royal’s arrest followed a jury verdict on May 14, 2024, after two days of deliberation. Upon release, he must register under the Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA).

The case came to light when one of the victims, a 27-year-old woman whom Royal had contacted via a dating app, was able to send a distress message through a food delivery app while in his apartment. This quick-thinking act led to her rescue and ultimately helped law enforcement intervene and prevent further assaults.

Royal’s crimes began on June 13, 2022, when he invited the woman to his home, where he raped her and forced her into additional sexual acts without consent. The following day, Royal met another woman, aged 26, under false pretenses, lured her to his apartment, and violently assaulted her.

District Attorney Clark commended the bravery of the victims and highlighted the significance of the sentence in preventing further harm to the community by a repeat sexual offender.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recent political discussions have centered on New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy as a potential vice presidential running mate for Kamala Harris, should she seek the presidency. This speculation gains traction amidst a backdrop of endorsement and support within the Democratic Party.

Governor Murphy recently endorsed Vice President Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, praising her capabilities and background as a prosecutor set to sharply contrast against political opponents like former President Donald Trump. “She has been an outstanding VP and has what it takes to be an even better President,” Murphy stated, confirming his full support for her candidacy.

In addition to his vocal support, Murphy hosted a fundraiser last month at his Middletown home, demonstrating his active engagement in strengthening Democratic campaigns. His political maneuvers have sparked discussions about his own aspirations and potential role in national politics, especially as his term as governor nears its end.

While there is no official confirmation of Harris considering Murphy as her running mate, the ongoing dialogue among political circles reflects a keen interest in Murphy’s profile, which aligns with the Democratic agenda and could complement Harris’s presidential bid. His progressive stance and active political role in New Jersey position him as a strong candidate for national office.

The speculation also comes at a time when Democrats are strategizing to unify and strengthen their position ahead of upcoming elections, with an emphasis on backing candidates who can effectively challenge Republican nominees and appeal to a broad spectrum of voters.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the possibility of a Harris-Murphy ticket remains a topic of interest and discussion among party strategists and the public alike. Further developments are expected as the election cycle progresses and candidates solidify their campaign strategies.

Phil Murphy has generally stayed in his own lane while serving as governor of New Jersey while maintaining a low profile at the national level. Murphy doesn’t have the national political stink that candidates like Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg bring to the table.

Tragic Shootings Near Brooklyn Migrant Shelter: Two Dead, One Critical

BROOKLYN, NY – A deadly shooting took place near the migrant shelter at 29 Ryerson Street in Brooklyn just minutes after another related shooting was reported just a quarter mile away, police reported today. Police have linked the shootings to a Venezuelan street gang operating in NYC and terrorizing locals.

Two deadly shootings within a block or two near a migrant shelter at 29 Ryerson St in Clinton Hill resulted in two fatalities and one person critically injured. The shootings occurred late last night.

“On Sunday, July 21, at approximately 10:44 pm, officers responded to a 911 call for a person shot within the vicinity of Flushing Street and Steuben Street, within the confines of the 88 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed an unidentified male in his 30’s with a gunshot wound to the chest at the location. EMS transported the male to New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.  There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing,” the NYPD reported after the first shooting.

By 11:08 PM, authorities confirmed three individuals were shot near each other.

“On Sunday, July 21, at approximately 10:51 pm, officers responded to a 911 call for shots fired at 29 Ryerson Street, within the confines of the 88 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed two males with gunshot wounds at the location. The first victim, a 21-year-old male sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was transported to Bellevue Hospital via EMS where he was pronounced deceased.  The second victim, a 59-year-old male, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and is listed in critical condition. There are no arrests at this time and the investigation remains ongoing,” the NYPD said.

Police were actively searching for three male suspects. Descriptions include a driver in a black jacket and helmet and a passenger in a grey hoodie and black sweatpants, both seen fleeing on a scooter. Another suspect was noted for wearing a white t-shirt.

Police say the incident was related to a Venezuelan street gang.

Detectives are intensifying their investigation into a series of recent shootings in Brooklyn, into links to El Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang known for its use of mopeds in criminal activities. According to sources, members of this gang were likely involved in last night’s triple shooting.

The focus on El Tren de Aragua comes amid increasing concerns about the gang’s presence and activities within the area. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full extent of the gang’s involvement in the shootings.
