Atlantic City, NJ – Glen Graves, 33, of Atlantic City, has been sentenced to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison for first-degree kidnapping, second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight. The sentence, issued on Thursday, July 11, by the Honorable Bernard E. DeLury, Jr. P.J.Cr., includes an 85% period of parole ineligibility under the No Early Release Act.

Graves’s offenses began on December 27, 2022, when he forcibly entered an Atlantic City apartment armed with a handgun. He ransacked the apartment and then forced the resident at gunpoint to drive to a local bank. While in the backseat of the victim’s car, Graves compelled the victim to withdraw $600 from a drive-through ATM. He fled the scene shortly after police received a 911 call, discarding latex gloves and a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number.

Law enforcement identified Graves through surveillance video, witness statements, and a positive DNA match from the discarded gloves. Graves was also sentenced to concurrent prison terms for prior offenses, including firing a handgun at an occupied vehicle on August 5, 2022, and eluding police on December 4, 2022, in a stolen vehicle.

Graves was apprehended in the spring of 2024 after a coordinated effort by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Galloway Township Police Department. He will be subject to five years of intensive parole supervision upon his release.

Arlington, TX – The woman who sang a terrible rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at last night’s MLB home run derby claimed today that she was drunk.

Four-time Grammy-nominated country singer Ingrid Andress faced widespread criticism following her national anthem performance at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field. Before the hitters could take their positions, Andress’s rendition of the anthem drew significant backlash on social media.

Today, she apologized, admitting that she was drunk and is now entering rehab.

“I’m not gonna bulls–t y’all, I was drunk last night,” Andress said today. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is. I hear it’s super fun”

Viewers took to various platforms to express their displeasure, labeling the performance as the “worst-ever National Anthem performance.”

Comments ranged from “I can’t watch; it’s too cringe-worthy” to discussions about the anthem’s challenging vocal range. Despite her musical accolades, Andress’s performance quickly became a viral topic, spawning numerous memes and heated online debates.

The criticism overshadowed the opening of the Home Run Derby, shifting the focus from the players to the national anthem controversy. As discussions continued, many debated the difficulty of performing the anthem live, especially given its notorious complexity.

Andress has yet to respond to the criticism.

New Jersey – A recent survey by HostingAdvice reveals that New Jersey parents are more lenient in monitoring their children’s social media use compared to the national average. The survey, which included 3,000 parents, highlights the varying practices and concerns regarding children’s online safety.

According to the survey, only 36% of New Jersey parents monitor their children’s online habits daily. This is contrasted with a national average where 52% of parents actively control the websites and social media platforms their children visit. Most parents surveyed believe that children should start using social media at age 13 or older.

The survey also found diverse methods among parents for monitoring their children’s internet usage. Thirty-three percent of parents routinely check browser history, while 25% use parental control software to limit access to inappropriate content. Additionally, 22% engage in discussions with their children about online behavior, and 18% occasionally restrict online access to ensure safe digital boundaries.

Geographic disparities in parental control practices were also noted. In South Dakota, 80% of parents surveyed actively control their children’s online access, compared to only 30% in Nebraska.

The increasing concerns about social media’s impact on children have prompted calls for more stringent measures. Recently, the Surgeon General urged Congress to mandate warning labels on social media apps, similar to those on cigarettes and alcohol. This growing awareness has driven parents to become more involved in their children’s online activities, although the approaches and levels of vigilance vary significantly.

TRENTON, NJ—Governor Phil Murphy has demanded the resignation of Senator Bob Menendez after a guilty verdict on 16 counts, citing a breach of law and trust. The verdict confirms that Senator Menendez violated his oath and demonstrated that all individuals, regardless of power, are subject to the law.

Murphy highlighted that Menendez had a fair trial and expressed gratitude towards the judiciary and law enforcement for their roles in securing justice. The governor underscored the severity of Menendez’s crimes, which compromised national security and the integrity of the criminal justice system.

In his statement, Murphy reiterated his call for Menendez to resign immediately to preserve the integrity of his office. He stressed that if Menendez does not step down, he urges the U.S. Senate to expel him.

Murphy assured that he is prepared to make a temporary appointment to ensure New Jersey residents are adequately represented, should a vacancy arise. The governor’s firm stance reflects his commitment to uphold justice and maintain public trust in government officials.

Andy Kim, the favorite candidate in this year’s election to replace Menendez, issued a statement today.

New Jersey Congressman Andy Kim expressed deep disappointment and sadness for both the state and the nation. Kim emphasized that public servants are expected to serve the public interest, a standard he believes Menendez failed to meet.

Upon the initial public charges, Kim had already requested Menendez’s resignation. With the conviction now confirmed, he insists that the only appropriate action for Menendez is to resign immediately. “The people of New Jersey deserve better,” Kim stated, reflecting his concern for the integrity of public office.

Menendez has said he is going to run for re-election as an independent prior to his conviction.

In the event that Menendez resigns, Phil Murphy will pick his temporary successor. Kim waged a fierce political campaign against Murphy’s wife, Tammy, in the Democrat primary election. It is unclear whether Murphy will choose Kim to replace Menendez.

Menendez has not yet spoken publicly about his conviction.

Beach Closures in Nantucket Amid Wind Turbine Concerns – Sharp Fiberglass Shards in the Ocean

Nantucket, MA — Wind turbine debris forced the closure of beaches in Massachusetts today, and people in New Jersey are wondering, can it happen here too?

A plan to build massive wind turbine farms off the coast of New Jersey has residents worried about another danger few have thought of before today’s news.

“South shore beaches are closed to swimming due to large floating debris. You can walk on the beaches however we strongly recommend you wear footwear due to sharp fiberglass shards and debris on the beaches,” the ACK harbormaster warned.

With summer temperatures soaring to 90 degrees, beachgoers in Nantucket seeking respite from a heatwave are facing unexpected hurdles as several local beaches have been closed due to debris from offshore wind turbines. The closures have sparked a community debate on the environmental impact of renewable energy infrastructure.

The controversy intensified after debris from Vineyard Wind’s turbines was found along the coastline, raising safety concerns. This incident has put a spotlight on the challenges associated with the transition to green energy.

In New Jersey, similar plans by Governor Phil Murphy to install wind turbines off the coast have come under scrutiny. Critics worry that the Garden State could experience similar issues as those currently unfolding in Nantucket, where the promise of sustainable energy meets the practicalities of environmental safety and tourism.

As Nantucket deals with the consequences of turbine debris, the local economy feels the pinch, with businesses relying on beach tourism calling for clearer regulations and more robust safety protocols to prevent future incidents. Meanwhile, environmentalists argue the long-term benefits of renewable energy sources outweigh the current challenges, urging a balanced approach in the implementation of these large-scale projects.

The situation in Nantucket serves as a critical case study for other regions considering similar renewable energy projects, highlighting the need for careful planning and community engagement to ensure the safety and well-being of both residents and the environment.

New York, NY – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, a veteran New Jersey Democrat, was convicted on all 16 criminal charges in his corruption trial in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday. The charges against Menendez included bribery, acting as a foreign agent, and obstructing justice.

The jury, after deliberating for over 12 hours across three days, found Menendez guilty in a trial that spanned nine weeks. Menendez, 70, who had pleaded not guilty, now faces a potential decades-long sentence even as he continues an independent reelection campaign for a fourth term in the Senate.

Menendez and his wife, Nadine, were accused by federal prosecutors of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes, including cash, gold bars, and lavish gifts from New Jersey businessmen Wael Hana and Fred Daibes, along with a third businessman who pleaded guilty before the trial commenced. These bribes were allegedly in exchange for Menendez’s influence and actions benefiting the businessmen’s interests.

The government’s case included evidence of over $486,000 in cash and $100,000 in gold bars found at the Menendez home. Testimony also indicated that Nadine Menendez frequently acted as an intermediary between her husband and the businessmen.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has not released a statement regarding the conviction.

NANTUCKET, MA— It was a three hour tour that ended with Dave Portnoy stranded just feet from the shoreline in Nantucket harbor.

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, found himself in a precarious situation off the coast of Nantucket on Monday when his 28-foot pleasure craft lost power and began drifting. Portnoy, who humorously referred to himself as Captain Dave during the ordeal, shared the incident with his followers via a social media video.

Portnoy explained that the outing was intended to show his mother his boat. However, upon reaching the vessel moored in Nantucket Harbor, he discovered it was completely without power, leaving him unable to use the engine, radio, or anchor. As he drifted, he attempted to send distress signals using a flare gun.

“Sector Southeastern New England received a report from U.S Coast Guard Station Brant Point of an approximately 28 ft pleasure craft belonging to Dave Portnoy that broke free of its mooring in Nantucket Harbor and was drifting through the area. Station Brant Point diverted from training and towed the vessel to its mooring,” a U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson said in a statement. “We are glad that he used distressed signals and applaud the Good Samaritan for having a VHF radio ready to hail the Coast Guard.”

The situation took a positive turn when a young woman in a rowboat-like craft noticed Portnoy and contacted the Coast Guard on his behalf. The Coast Guard Station Brant Point, initially engaged in training exercises, responded to the call. Four members of the Coast Guard crew secured and towed Portnoy’s boat back to its mooring.

Portnoy expressed his gratitude on social media platform X, thanking the Coast Guard for their timely intervention and joking about reconsidering future boating ventures. The Coast Guard also issued a statement, praising the Good Samaritan’s use of a VHF radio to call for help and reminding the public about the importance of carrying various forms of communication, like a personal locator beacon or VHF radio, to ensure safety at sea.

Lancaster, PA — Eric Dorwart, 55, of the 500 block of Pleasure Road, is facing new charges in connection with a 1997 cold case sexual assault, child pornography, and unlawful contact with a minor.

Dorwart was initially charged in October 2023 for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old and a 5-year-old in 1997 outside the victims’ home in Gordonville, Leacock Township. DNA evidence collected at the time led to his identification and arrest. He waived his preliminary hearing on October 17, 2023, and was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

In August 2023, a search of Dorwart’s residence uncovered child pornography. Police recovered two laptops and an iPhone, which contained 1,672 images of child pornography, 167 of which showed Dorwart engaging in sexual contact with three prepubescent children. Additionally, 464 images of fetish material were found on the iPhone, with 61 images involving infant and toddler-aged victims.

The latest set of charges emerged after the discovery of images depicting Dorwart engaged in paraphilic sexual behavior with a juvenile victim. The images matched items found during the search of his residence. Dorwart now faces charges of indecent assault of a person less than 13, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and indecent exposure.

Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate and seek to identify the victims, who may have been infants babysat by the Dorwart family. Anyone with information can contact Pennsylvania State Police Troopers Dakota Baer or Brian McNally at 717-299-7650.

Secret Service Head Explains Lack of Rooftop Agent During Assassination Attempt on Trump

Butler, PA – Kimberly Cheatle, the head of the Secret Service, disclosed why there was no agent positioned atop the building from which an assassination attempt was made on Donald Trump. Cheatle is currently under scrutiny and facing resignation calls from lawmakers, labeling the incident a significant security lapse.

During an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, Cheatle explained that the decision against placing an agent on the building, located about 150 yards from where Trump was speaking, was due to safety concerns related to its sloped roof. This building was considered a risky position for an agent because of the potential danger posed by the roof’s slope.

Instead, the strategy was to secure the building from the inside. However, this led to a critical security failure. Thomas Matthew Crooks managed to climb the building and establish a shooting position, complicating law enforcement efforts to locate him. Despite receiving warnings from the crowd, the response was delayed.

The building where the Secret Service snipers were positioned was also a sloped roof, and arguably with a slope steeper than the building where the shooter was positioned.

Cheatle revealed that Crooks was identified as a person of suspicion, but the rapid events outpaced the response capabilities. By the time he was located, he had already taken a position on the rooftop and fired at the former president. Interestingly, Cheatle noted that the snipers protecting Trump were positioned on a building with a comparably more severe sloped roof.

Bail Reform Once Again Fails Ocean County Residents As Two People Involved in Murder and Dismemberment of Toms River Man Set Free by Authorities.

JACKSON, NJ – Dismembering a person’s corpse and relocating their remains in plastic bags is not enough of a crime to keep two suspects incarcerated until their trial in New Jersey under the Bail Reform Act.

The heinous murder was committed in Ocean County and is connected to a second murder, a police shootout, and a suicide. None of that was enough to hold the suspects in the Ocean County Jail.

Four people were charged for the disposal of a dismembered body of a murdered Toms River man. One remains in jail, two have been released, and another is at large.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office says there is no danger to the community. The four were charged days after a police standoff with Maxwell Johnston in Toms River. Johnston was the shooter wanted for another murder, a young mother, in Manchester.

Jared Krysiak is wanted by police for the murder and dismemberment of Kerry Rollason.

In that shooting, Johnston killed Gabriella Caroleo in cold blood and in broad daylight near the intersection of Route 571 and South Hope Chapel Road in Manchester.

That led police to a home on Ravenwood Drive in Toms River, where Johnston was hiding out with his intimate partner, Elizabeth Mascarelli.

After Johnston took his own life, Mascarelli was arrested for harboring the fugitive murder suspect. During their investigation, they found evidence of a heinous crime committed in that house. That investigation led investigators to a Jackson Township home where they found the dismembered body of Kerry Rollason, 56, the owner of the Ravenwood Drive home.

The medical examiner’s office was able to identify Rollason from his dismembered body parts. It is not known why he was murdered.

Two more people were arrested for the crime; each was set free. Mascarelli faced new charges for her involvement in the murder and removal of the body, and she is still incarcerated. A third suspect has so far eluded police.

Danielle Bolstad, 42, of Barnegat, Jared Krysiak, 34, of Brick Township, and Jarred Palumbo, 36, of Manchester, were each charged with Hindering Apprehension and Desecration of Human Remains in connection with the same series of events.

On July 13, 2024, Palumbo was taken into custody without incident.  He was processed and served with the charges via summons pending an upcoming first appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.

Danielle Bolstad

On July 14, 2024, Bolstad was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.

On July 15, 2024, Elizabeth Mascarelli was served with the charges referenced above on a complaint at the Ocean County Jail.

Jared Krysiak has not yet been taken into custody and is considered a fugitive from justice.  As such, a warrant for his arrest has been issued, and his name has been entered in the National Crime Information Center database.
