BRANDON, FL – A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy was killed by a fleeing suspect during a chase just days before he was set to retire.  The fleeing suspect intentionally rammed his vehicle into the officer, causing his death.

According to the HCSO, at approximately 3:42 p.m. on January 11, 2021, HCSO received a 911 call from management at Paddock Club Apartments, located at 921 Paddock Club Drive in Brandon. The caller reported that a black male had been throwing property out of his apartment window and front door. The caller also stated that this individual has threatened to harm staff in the past. Deputies spoke to the man through the door, but there was no cause for arrest at the time.

The office received another call for the same individual an hour later.

Later, at approximately 5:03 p.m., another disturbance is called into HCSO’s Communications Bureau. This time, a neighbor called to report that a black male was nude and acting erratically.

Again, management from the Paddock Club Apartments called to report the same complaint. When deputies arrived at the scene the second time, they attempted to establish a dialogue with Travis Zachary Gabriel Garrett, 28, but were unsuccessful. Garrett then became combative and struck one of the responding deputies, Michael Durig, Jr. multiple times. It was then that the second responding deputy, Adam Pautz, deployed his taser once without success, forcing Deputy Durig to deploy his taser two times, also without success.

Garrett fled in his car, while Deputy Durig and Deputy Pautz gave chase. Deputy Pautz tries to block Garrett, however, Garrett is able to get past him and crashes through one of the apartment complex’s gated entrances. Garrett continued to flee onto Brandon Parkway, and then westbound onto Lumsden Road, where, according to several witnesses, he intentionally rammed into Master Corporal Brian LaVigne at a high rate of speed. Master Corporal LaVigne was operating his marked HCSO vehicle.

“LaVigne’s fellow deputies worked heroically to try and tend to his injuries, while Hillsborough County Fire Rescue attempted to extricate Master Corporal LaVigne for several minutes. Despite their courageous efforts and those on frontlines at Tampa General Hospital, Master Corporal LaVigne passed away while in the line of duty,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

LaVigne was set to retire this week. He was 54 years old. He is survived by his wife, and two adult children, one of whom is also a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
HCSO is investigating the fatal incident and charges against Garrett are forthcoming. He does not have any arrest history in Hillsborough County, but he was previously Baker Acted in Pasco County.

“Master Corporal Brian LeVigne has been part of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office family since 1990 and he was just days away from retirement,” Sheriff Chronister said. “We will never forget MC LaVigne for laying down his life in the line of duty or for the response of his squad members who did everything they could to ensure that the individual responsible for his death was apprehended.”

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy on Monday announced 5,542 new COVID-19 cases and 51 new confirmed deaths, saying those incidents could be linked to residents gathering with each other indoors over the Christmas and New Years holidays.

“We are also announcing 5,042 more positive PCR tests today, as well as another 540. Again, we use the word presumed positive antigen rapid tests for a consolidated cumulative total of 590,165 which breaks down to 532,959 PCR tests and 57,206 antigen tests,” Murphy said.

The positivity rate for all of the 49,724 PCR tests recorded last Thursday, January 7th was 11.32%. The statewide rate of transmission for Monday was  1.09.

“Let’s stop here for a moment. The transmission rate is once again above the benchmark of one, meaning an increasing spread of this virus. Now if we look at our calendars, we note that it is January 11th. We had anticipated, as I said, an increase in positive tests coming out of the holidays and it is safe to say that we are now experiencing that increase. This is likely from indoor gatherings where neither social distancing nor wearing a face mask were adhered to,” Murphy said. This is what we were afraid of,  people letting their guard down over Christmas and New Year’s and spreading the virus among their families and friends. For the next upcoming days, we’re probably going to see the impact of this now.”

The recent increase in positive tests has not yet led to a spike in hospitalizations, Murphy said . As of last night, there were 3,653 total patients being treated in New Jersey hospitals. 3,402 of them were known COVID, 251 were persons under investigation awaiting tests.

“We are announcing, with a heavy heart, an additional 51 confirmed COVID-related deaths today, bringing the cumulative total of confirmed deaths to 17,873. Another 2,059 deaths remained listed as probable,” he added.

TRENTON, NJ –  New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy on Monday ordered flags lowered to half-staff in memory of fallen U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, A New Jersey native.

“If you’re out and about the state today you will notice the flags up and down the state are flying at half-mast. I have ordered our flags to be lowered in honor, in memory of United States Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. We would normally lower the flags for someone lost in service for a day,” Murphy said. “We have made the decision, I’ve made the decision to extend this until he is laid to rest, and they’ll remain at half-staff until then.”

Murphy said Brian died last week following an assault by insurrectionists in the United States Capitol who, according to reports, pepper sprayed him before attacking him with a fire extinguisher.

A native of South River in Middlesex County, Brian was a six-year veteran of the New Jersey Air National Guard and had served two overseas deployments during his years in the guard. He was a 12-year member of the Capitol Police. He took his duty with the utmost seriousness, but also enjoyed interacting with the visitors who would come from around the world to tour our Capitol with the members and Congressional staff, regardless of party, by the way, who worked there.

“I had the honor of speaking with Brian’s dad and brothers this morning a short while ago, and to extend condolences not just from the First Lady and me, but from our entire New Jersey family. Once a New Jerseyan, always a New Jerseyan, and Brian will always be a New Jerseyan,” Murphy said.

He was honored and proud to serve. He was honored and proud to uphold the Constitution. He was honored and proud to work in the United States Capitol which is, let us not forget ever, the greatest symbol of democracy in the world. His death is rightfully being investigated as a homicide.

BUFFALO, NY – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that following successful implementation of the pilot plan to open Bills Stadium to fans last week, Buffalo Bills fans can attend the team’s second home playoff game on Saturday, January 16. Under this continued demonstration, approximately 6,700 fans will be allowed to attend the game only after first obtaining a negative COVID-19 test result and adhering to all public health precautions. Contact tracing will also be conducted after the game and tailgating remains prohibited. This plan was developed cooperatively between the Bills, the New York State Department of Health and BioReference Laboratories.

[adsanity id=”144292″ align=”alignnone”/]

“It was a great joy to see the Buffalo Bills win their first home playoff game in more than two decades in front of thousands of New York fans on Saturday, and we’re looking forward to extending that winning streak this week,” Governor Cuomo said. “New York’s first-in-the-nation pilot plan to reopen Bills Stadium to fans went smoothly, and we’re pleased to be able to extend it to next week’s game. The success of our pilot plan depends on individual behavior as well as collective measures, and I urge Bills fans to stay safe and follow the rules as we look to another exciting game. Go Bills!”

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said, “The Bills’ play on the field earned them an opportunity to play again this weekend, and their fans behavior in the stands earned them another opportunity to watch them.  We’ll continue our contact tracing efforts and our work closely with the Bills throughout the week to ensure all safety compliance measures are in place for Saturday night. We’re confident we’ll have the same outcome, both on and off the field.”

Buffalo Bills Owners Kim and Terry Pegula said, “We felt the energy from our fans last Saturday at the stadium and we know our coaches and players appreciated the support on the field. We have worked with the Governor, his team and BioReference to ensure we will host fans again on Saturday night. They have all been great partners in this process. We want to thank our fans for following the safety guidelines, and remind the fans coming Saturday to please wear your mask, socially distance and follow the rules. Be safe. Be smart. Be loud!”

Jon R. Cohen, M.D., Executive Chairman of BioReference Laboratories, said, “BioReference is proud to continue implementing its large scale COVID-19 screening program in order to allow fans to enjoy the Buffalo Bills in person. We thank the Governor and the Bills for their partnership and look forward to another exciting game.”

The continued success of this plan will help inform the re-opening of entertainment venues across New York. Within the demonstration, team staff control all entry and exit points to the stadium and only fans with a documented negative COVID-19 test are allowed inside. Testing is conducted in partnership with BioReference. Once inside the stadium, fans are required to wear a mask at all times and adhere to strict social distancing protocols. Fans who refuse to comply with these protocols will be removed from the stadium. Ushers will also be present throughout the stadium to ensure all fans are in compliance with the public health protocols and rules of conduct.

Tailgating remains banned under this plan and New Yorkers are reminded to avoid gatherings and parties before, during and after the game as these events are prime for deadly viral spread.

The name on the plane said American Airlines, but the pilot of the plane said he didn’t want anymore “USA” or “Trump” chants on his flight, according to a conservative activist who recorded the message.    “Isn’t this American Airlines?” she asked.

“I’ll put this plane down in the middle of Kansas and dump people there, so behave, please,” the pilot threatened the passengers.

The airline however, said the ruckus broke out after passengers didn’t want to wear face masks.

“Prior to departure from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), the pilot onboard flight 1242 made an announcement emphasizing the importance of following crew member instructions and complying with mandatory face-covering policies,” the company said in a statement.

The FAA issued a warning to air travelers that unruly behavior can land passengers in jail.

“Federal law prohibits you from physically assaulting or threatening to physically assault the crew, and anyone else, on an aircraft. You could be subject to fines of up to $35K and imprisonment for such conduct,” the FAA said.

MANCHESTER, NH -A Manchester mom who barricaded herself in her home when police arrived to ask her why she didn’t pick up her children from daycare and why she sent a three-year-old to school with a Lyft driver has been arrested.

On January 8, 2021 at approximately 6pm, Manchester Police arrested 35 y/o Stephanie Goddu and charged her with Endangerment the Welfare of a Child.

Goddu was wanted in connection with two incidents involving her children. She was located at her Manchester residence. Goddu did not initially comply with officers orders to surrender and barricaded herself in her apartment. After a short time, Goddu did come out and was taken into custody.

The investigation into Goddu began on January 6, 2021 when officers were notified that Goddu’s two young children had not been picked up from daycare at Southern NH Services. Employees could not make contact with Goddu. Police were told that Goddu also had a three month old infant.

Officers responded to Goddu’s home to check on her and the baby. Goddu appeared “incoherent and disoriented” and had trouble answering questions.

The baby was found to be strapped to an infant carrier seat, and was wearing extremely warm clothing and a blanket. The carrier was not more than 6 feet away from a heater and there was concern that the child could overheat. The child was also found to be covered in urine.

Through their investigation, police also learned that on January 4, 2021 Goddu had hired a Lyft driver to take her 3 y/o old child to daycare. The child arrived safely, but was alone in the vehicle.
Both the condition of the infant and the unsupervised ride to day care were cause for police to charge Goddu. Since Goddu did not initially surrender, she was also charged with Resisting Arrest.

NJ Governor Phil Murphy

MANALAPAN, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is the latest in a growing list of New Jersey politicians who cut the line and took federal loans for their own businesses instead of letting small mom and pop operations get the money needed to stay afloat.  The Governor’s Sky Blue FC women’s soccer team received $150,000 in free money from the Government while small businesses in the state continue to close.

“Like virtually each different workforce within the NWSL, Sky Blue noticed its plans for the 20-21 season dramatically altered because of the pandemic,” Ed Nalbandian, co-owner of the team said today.  “Having simply introduced a brand new residence environment, the workforce was unable to finish promoting season tickets. Whereas the revenue abruptly dropped, the workforce didn’t lay off employees, didn’t furlough, and continued to pay salaries, housing, vehicle leases, and hire whereas persevering with to interact followers by social media. The Federal PPP program grant went by the identical utility and evaluate course of as each different applicant impacted by COVID.”

The grant was kept secret by the Governor, his partners and the team until the information was forced to be disclosed by the Small Business Administration after a lawsuit ordered records to be released.

OLYMPIA, WA – Parler, the “free speech” social media competitor to Facebook and Twitter has sued Amazon after its service was terminated with just a 24 hour warning notice Sunday night.  The company was also removed from both the Apple and Google mobile app stores this weekend over its supporters and owners support of President Donald J. Trump. Amazon said Parler’s users violated the company’s terms of service for issuing violent statements regarding the 2020 election.

The social media startup claims Amazon’s shutdown was motivated by political animus and designed to reduce competition in the microblogging services market to the benefit of Twitter.  Parler said Amazon Web Service suspended their service because they are a dangerous rival to Twitter’s market share.  Parler, at the time of the take down was the top download app on the Apple iTunes store for several weeks.

Last month, Twitter signed a multiyear deal to continue hosting Twitter on its web server platform.

“When Twitter announced two evenings ago it was permanently banning President Donald J. Trump, from its platform conservatives began to flee Twitter en masse for Parler,” the company said. “The exodus was so large that the next day, Parler was the number one free app from Apple’s App Store.”

Amazon told Parler the shutdown was because it was not policing its subscribers, yet on Sunday night, one of Twitter’s top trending tweets was “Hang Mike Pence”.

“But Amazon has no plans nor has it made an threats to suspend Twitter,” the company said.

Parler is arguing that the AWS shutdown is nothing more than political animus aimed at reducing competition in the micro blogging market.  It also claims when AWS coordinated its shutdown with Twitter, it violated Anti-Trust laws. Parler asked the court for an immediate restraining order against Amazon to reinstate the service until Parler can find a new home. Parler is also suing Amazon for breaching its commercial hosting contract.

PIERCE, WA – A truck driver was stabbed a the Pierce Heartland Express truck stop on Sunday, according to police.  At 7:47 p.m. on Sunday January 10th, 2021 our deputies responded to a stabbing call at the Heartland Express trucking company on Steele Street and 21st Ave Ct S in Parkland. The 911 caller said he had been stabbed and the suspect was possibly still on scene.
Deputies were able to get a description of the suspect from the victim before he was transported to the hospital for his injuries. The incident started when two truck drivers argued about parking their trucks in the lot. The suspect then stabbed the victim with a knife several times.

Deputies setup containment around the lot and someone called in that a person similar in description to the suspect had left the lot just prior to deputies locking down the scene. A few minutes later the suspect walked up to a deputy trying to get back into the business lot. The suspect was wearing only a t-shirt and shorts and was not dressed for the weather, leading them to believe he left in a hurry or took off his outer clothing. The deputy believed the male matched the description of the suspect and took him into custody. When they checked the suspect’s truck, blood was found on his door handle.

The 61 year old male suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for Assault in the 1st Degree. The 63 year old victim had non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the hospital. Detectives and forensic investigators went out to the scene to assist with collecting evidence and surveillance footage of the incident. Police did not reveal the name of the suspect.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD –  A car thief in Montgomery County was arrested after he tried to bring a dog to the local shelter that was in the vehicle he stole.

On Tuesday night (January 5), officers responded to a parking garage at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda for the report of a vehicle that had been stolen with a dog inside of it. Officers reviewed mall surveillance video and observed the suspect trying the door handles of multiple vehicles to see if they were unlocked. The suspect was seen stealing the victim’s SUV, which was left running and unattended. Auto theft detectives began to investigate the theft and work to identify the suspect.

Yesterday afternoon, (January 6), as the suspect attempted to turn in the dog to the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center as “stray”, an Animal Services employee recognized that the dog looked very similar to a dog that had been reported as stolen in a social media post. The employee also noted that the vehicle the suspect had driven to the adoption center matched the description of the vehicle reported as stolen during the same incident.

Officers were called to the scene and the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Malik Gillispie of Germantown, was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft. Detectives noted that Gillispie was wearing the same clothing he was wearing in the mall surveillance video (when he stole the SUV).

“The dog, Joey, was reunited with his family,” the department said. “This incident is a reminder to all of us to never leave our vehicles running and unattended. We’re happy that Joey is back home with his family!”

WARREN COUNTY, NJ – Former New Jersey GOP Chairman Doug Steinhardt today announced he is no longer running for Governor to unseat Governor Phil Murphy in 2021.  Steinhardt’s campaign was based on his support for President Trump.  He attacked his opponent Jack Ciattarelli for his comments against the President over the past four years, calling him a charlatan.  Ciattarelli admitted last week that he didn’t vote for Trump in the 2016 Presidential Election, but now is hoping he can win the conservative votes at the Jersey Shore and northwest Jersey at the party’s annual convention in March.

“Last month I was thrilled to announce our campaign for Governor, and the positive response from grassroots activists and donors has been overwhelming. While our strong standing in this race makes this decision even more heartbreaking, unfortunately, unforeseen professional obligations have made it untenable for me to continue in this race as a candidate for Governor,” Steinhardt said. “To everyone who supported our campaign, thank you. Your message was heard loud and clear, and you do have a voice. Together we will rise above, and we will ultimately Take Back New Jersey.”

Steinhardt’s departure leaves the showdown now between Atlantic City business man Hirsh Singh, an avid supporter of President Donald J. Trump and Jack Ciattarelli, a man who once said Trump was unfit to be President of the United States.

Joe Rullo is also another contender for the job.  Rullo and Singh both ran against Ciattarelli in the 2017 Gubernatorial primary election.

“Doug Steinhardt just dropped out. Now its us versus Rino NeverTrumper Jack Ciaterelli,” Joe Rullo said. “TheRulloRepublicans in NJ have an opportunity to send a message of principal that we are done with fake Rino Republicans.”

In 2020, Singh was able to beat the Republican establishment at several county conventions, whether or not he can pull off a win against Ciattarelli who has the backing of most of the shore based GOP leaders, who have mostly abandoned the President remains to be unseen.

The driver, later identified as Allen Buford, pulled over and handed Cpl. Serrano an ID card stating he lost his Driver’s License. As Cpl. Serrano went back to his car to check the validity of his license, Buford fled from the stop.

After a brief pursuit, Buford pulled over and exited his vehicle grabbing a gun and holding it by his side. Buford continuously asked Cpl. Serrano to kill him stating his life was over. Cpl. Serrano was able to convince Buford to put the gun down; however, he turned to walk away from Cpl. Serrano and was tasered. He was arrested for Fleeing/Elude, Display of a Firearm during a Felony, DWLSR and Carrying Concealed Weapon. He was transported to the Marion County Jail.

Buford was out on bond for 2019 charges of 2 counts of Capital Sex Battery, 1 count of Lewd or Lascivious Battery, 1 count of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation and Violation of Probation.

BOISE, ID – An Ohio internet service provider has blocked subscriber access to Twitter and Facebook after the platforms began cracking down and censoring its users on the platform.  Once of those censored was President Donald J. Trump…the President of the United States.

The company said its users do not want their children to see the censorship of those platforms on their computers and devices.

“It has come to our attention that Twitter and Facebook are engaged in Censorship of our Customers and information,” the company wrote in an email to subscribers.  “We have the past couple days been fielding calls from customers voicing the concerns that they do not want these sites allowed to be displayed on their internet feed to them and they do not want their children to go to these sites.”

Although customers can do that themselves, YourT1WiFi said many do not have the technical knowledge to do so and it would be very ‘tiresome’ to help each caller block the two social media services who have implemented draconian censorship against Republicans and conservatives over the past few years.

“Any other website that may also be censoring whether it be through an algorithm they use for their site or any other means,” the company said, would also be blocked.

Instead, subscribers who do want access to those two tech sites engaged in censorship of Americans, they can be put on a white list that will allow them to once again connect.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – A former Seattle college soccer star, currently serving time for sexual assault in Arizona and on a second sexual assault case in King County, Washington, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Seattle to making false statements on a tax return, announced U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moran. During a massive tax fraud scheme, 48-year-old DION L. EARL purchased the Seattle Impact FC franchise, a professional indoor soccer club. According to the plea agreement between 2008 and 2014, EARL used false documents to lie about his income, the amount of tax dollars withheld by employers, and his mortgage deductions so that he could attempt to claim tax refunds of more than $1.6 million. Under the terms of the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend EARL serve a one-year consecutive federal sentence following his 12-year sentence in Arizona and 33-month consecutive sentence in Washington State, for a total sentence of nearly 16 years in prison.

The actual sentence is up to U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik who has scheduled sentencing for April 9, 2021.

In the 1990’s EARL was a soccer star at Seattle Pacific University. Between 2008 and 2014, EARL also worked in car sales in Washington State and Arizona and owned Dion Earl’s Total Soccer & Tennis Camps, LLC, d/b/a Total Business Ventures, and the Seattle Impact, FC. In today’s plea agreement, EARL admitted that he used his association with car dealers, Dion Earl’s Total Soccer & Tennis Camps, and the Seattle Impact to commit tax fraud.

EARL specifically acknowledged that, on his 2012 Form 1040 tax return, he claimed that (1) he made $1,600,000 working for eight different car dealers, which withheld more than $660,000 of his wages for taxes, and (2) his wife was employed by Dion Earl’s Total Soccer & Tennis Camps, which paid her $240,000 and withheld $51,000 in taxes, and (3) he made $520,000 in mortgage interest payments on four different properties. EARL admitted that, in fact, all these claims were false. That is, EARL admitted that during 2012, EARL made less than $45,000, from which he did not have any taxes withheld, and he paid limited mortgage interest. Pursuant to these false claims, EARL obtained a federal tax refund of $414,160.

EARL also admitted that even after the IRS began a civil audit of EARL’s taxes in 2013, he continued to make false claims and provide false information to the IRS. For example, Earl admitted that, as late as 2015, he falsely claimed he and his wife made $765,000 from Dion Earl’s Total Soccer & Tennis Camps, LLC, and the Seattle Impact FC, from which the businesses withheld $180,000 in taxes. In making these false claims, EARL sought a tax refund of $137,554. That refund was not paid, however.

In total, EARL sought $1.6 million in fraudulent tax refunds and was paid $1,093,534 by the IRS.

In the plea agreement, EARL also agreed to pay $600,000 in restitution to the State of Arizona, as a result of fraudulent tax returns he filed with that state. And, while EARL did not admit to submitting false income information to Key Bank in 2008, in order to qualify for a home equity line of credit—as was alleged in the Indictment—in the plea agreement, EARL agreed to make approximately $95,000 in restitution payments to Key Bank.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Arlen Storm.
