UTICA, NY — A complex case of attempted theft involving over $120,000 came to light in late May when a Utah police department reached out to the Utica Criminal Investigations Division. The incident involved a fraudulent check deposit that was traced back to Utica.

The situation began when a Utah-based business closed a bank account and requested the balance via check. Upon attempting to cash the check, the business was informed by the bank that it had already been deposited into another account in Utica.

Further investigation led authorities to identify the account and individual involved in the deposit. Brandon Mitchell, 34, from Utica, was subsequently charged with attempted grand larceny in the second degree and possession of a forged instrument.

This arrest marks a significant step in addressing financial crimes that span across state lines, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies.

CECIL COUNTY, MD – A casual decision at a Royal Farms store in Port Deposit turned into a $100,000 surprise for a Cecil County man, who won the top prize on a Bingo X10 scratch-off. The man, a maintenance worker who has chosen to remain anonymous, did not anticipate the scale of his win when he randomly selected the ticket.

After purchasing the scratch-off, he scanned it at the store, only to be prompted to head to Lottery headquarters due to the significant prize. Initially, both he and his wife suspected they had won a few thousand dollars at most. “We knew he had won something, but we just didn’t know how much,” his wife remarked. The reality of their $100,000 win only set in after they scanned the ticket again at home.

Overwhelmed with joy, the winner shared, “I couldn’t believe it. I was very happy to win.” He plans to use the prize money to pay off his mortgage and fund repairs for his wife’s car. Remarkably, lottery luck seems to be a recurring theme in their household, as his wife also secured a substantial prize from a scratch-off a few years back.

The Royal Farms store, located at 1336 Jacob Tome Memorial Highway, will also benefit from this lucky event, receiving a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. This stroke of fortune underscores the unpredictability and excitement that keeps lottery enthusiasts coming back.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – An Anne Arundel County man, fondly known as “AA County Man,” has struck lottery gold for the second time in two years, winning $50,000 in the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game. The recent win came from the July 5 drawing, where he successfully matched a friend’s birthday numbers on a $1 straight bet ticket.

Back in June of 2022, he won the same amount, but that time it was through two 50-cent tickets, each bringing in $25,000. His latest victory at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore was greeted with a familiar sense of calm. “Just put, ‘AA County Man strikes again!’” he exclaimed on July 11 after claiming his prize. His belief in the possibility of winning remains strong: “As long as I got faith and belief! I realize every draw can win,” he stated.

While he acknowledges the unpredictable nature of lottery draws, his strategy has certainly paid off twice now. Despite his excitement, his plans for the winnings are quite straightforward: he intends to save the money, maintaining a low profile about his windfall.

The Safeway grocery store at 1781 Forest Drive in Annapolis, where the winning ticket was purchased, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the ticket. This repeat win not only highlights the chance nature of lottery success but also the thrill that keeps players like “AA County Man” coming back for more.
