ASHTABULA COUNTY, OH – Cherise Griffith of Ashtabula County has been sentenced to life in prison for her role in the rape of multiple children, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced today.

“While iron bars will restrain evil and prevent further harm, my heart breaks for the young victims who have also been imposed a lifetime of potential harms and painful memories,” Yost said. “Child rapists rape no children in prison.”

Griffith, 41, was sentenced on Wednesday in the Ashtabula County Court of Common Pleas after pleading guilty to four counts of child rape, each a felony of the first degree. The victims in the case were under 10 years of age.

One of Griffith’s co-defendants, Dannail Obhof, was convicted of four counts of rape and was sentenced to 25 years in prison on October 7, 2020.

A third co-defendant, Stewart Stacy, is accused of 12 counts of rape (F1), four counts of gross sexual imposition (F3) and two counts of endangering children (F3 and F2).

The cases were investigated by the Ashtabula Police Department and the Conneaut Police Department. The Special Prosecutions Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office prosecuted each case.

WILMINGTON, DE – The Delaware State Police have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile from Wilmington and a 13-year-old from Wilmington after they led the Pennsylvania State Police on a pursuit while in a stolen motor vehicle.

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, in the early morning hours, Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Trevose located a 2019 Ford Escape that had been reported stolen out of the New Castle County Police Department in a Carjacking incident on December 9, 2020. They attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the vehicle fled and the pursuit was terminated. Shortly thereafter, PSP Troopers from Troop K Philadelphia, a two Trooper vehicle, witnessed this same vehicle traveling southbound on I-95 near the Philadelphia Airport and were aware of the previous pursuit. The PSP Troopers were occupying a fully marked patrol vehicle. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but again the 2019 Ford Escape failed to stop and fled southbound on I-95 at a high rate of speed. A second two-person vehicle from PSP then also joined in the pursuit. As the pursuit of the Ford Escape entered into Delaware on I-95 southbound at approximately 03:32 a.m., the PSP marked units attempted to box the suspect vehicle in as they crossed the state line into Delaware. Once in Delaware, the operator of the Ford Focus (17-year-old) intentionally struck one of the PSP marked vehicles left side with their vehicles right side. It was at this time, that the PSP Trooper operating the marked unit fired one (1) round at the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then maneuvered to the other side of the PSP vehicle appearing to prepare to strike the Troopers vehicle a second time. It was then that a second PSP Trooper in the passenger seat fired several rounds at the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle then traveled into the center median and crashed into a berm.

The operator of the suspect vehicle fled on foot from the vehicle, however, was taken into custody by a PSP Trooper from the second vehicle. Three other passengers were also then taken into custody by PSP at the vehicle. One of these three passengers (13-year-old) was found to have a loaded Rossi .38 Special Revolver, with one live round and two fired cartridge casings. However, it is not believed that this firearm was fired during this incident.

The 17-year-old driver suffered an apparent graze wound to the left thigh and a contusion to his head. This defendant was transported to two local hospitals where he was treated and released. Neither of the other three passengers in the stolen vehicle was injured.

No PSP Troopers were injured during this incident. No DSP Troopers were involved in this pursuit or shooting incident. DSP Homicide Unit responded to the scene and investigated the incident.

If any member of the public has information about this event, they are asked to contact DSP Homicide Detective Daniel Grassi at 302-365-8441.

The 17-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle was charged with the following:

Reckless Endangering First Degree (2 counts) (F), Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony & Receiving Stolen Property over $1,500 (F). The 17-year-old defendant was arraigned at J.P. Court 11 in the presence of his mother and was released on a $4,000.00 unsecured bond.

The 13-year-old passenger in the stolen vehicle was charged with the following:

Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (F) and Possession of a Firearm By a Person Prohibited (F) (due to his juvenile status). This 13-year-old defendant was arraigned at J.P. Court 11 in the presence of his mother and was released on a $2,000.00 unsecured bond.

A third 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle was arraigned on two capiases and was committed to the NCC Detention Center instead of a $1,000.00 secured bond.

TRENTON, NJ –  New Jersey is continuing its enforcement crackdown against small business owners who are violating Governor Phil Murphy’s orders to cease operations and shut down during the second wave of COVID-19.  The governor has ordered all bar services to cease and for restaurants and bars to stop serving indoor patrons at 10 p.m., where scientific studies that do not exist, show that is when COVID-19 is most dangerous and contagious.

“With regards to Executive Order compliance, I’ll just quickly go through 13 different citations. There were six of them in Plainfield and seven in Newark. In Plainfield, Latino Heat Bar was cited for a violation, not only once but twice, so that makes up two of the six,” said New Jersey’s top COVID-19 enforcer, State Police Superintendent Patrick Callahan.  “Also, Hugo’s Nightclub was cited, Perone’s Nightclub in Plainfield was cited. Pueblo Oviedo was cited in Plainfield, Chez Marie Nightclub. Moving on to the ones in Newark, Miyagi Barbershop was cited for EO violations. Style, another salon, was cited. Also in Newark, Zaluba Bar 437 was cited. Newark Police also responded and cited Sports Bar 865. Also, Ferry Street BBQ in Newark cited, as was Vivo Lounge 167 and Esther’s Place 666.”

New Jersey is edging towards a second lockdown as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. This week, neighboring Delaware, New York City and Pennsylvania completely shut down indoor dining, impacting the already devastated industry. In New Jersey, there is no relief for businesses shut down by the Governor’s executive orders.

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River and Brick continue to be the epicenter of the post-Thanksgiving outbreak of COVID-19 in Ocean County as 390 new positive cases were reported on Friday.  Brick Township reported 80 new cases.  66 new cases were in Toms River, 41 in Lakewood and 19 were reported in Jackson Township.

4 new deaths were reported in Toms River, including that of a long time Toms River community champion, Michael Reilly. Reilly, a U.S. Marine and 1991 graduate of Toms River High School South operated ServPro of Toms River.  After Superstorm Sandy, Reilly and ServPro were on the front lines of the recovery.  Reilly was known as a person who would drop what he was doing and help anyone in the community.  He will be missed by many at the Jersey Shore.

The spread of COVID-19 has shifted again in Ocean County in the week since Thanksgiving.  In September, Lakewood Township saw a large surge in cases in the immediate aftermath of the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, Lakewood saw 454 new cases in the 7 day period after the Jewish holidays.  Now, in the aftermath of Thanksgiving weekend, both Toms River and Brick Township outpace Lakewood.  According to Ocean County Health Department records, Toms River is now the new epicenter of the virus countywide.

In the aftermath of the Lakewood outbreak, Governor Phil Murphy deployed contact tracers, more testing capabilities, and a COVID-19 liaison team to help get that community’s outbreak under control.  So far, Murphy has not mentioned any additional measures for the rest of Ocean County, now experiencing a similar post-holiday surge.  On Sunday, the Ocean County Health Department accounted for another 357 cases in the county.  On Saturday, 340 new cases were reported for a weekend total of 697 new cases.

Of those cases reported since Friday, 199 were in Toms River, 142 were in Brick Township and 120 were reported in Lakewood, making Toms River the new COVID-19 epicenter of the county in the post-Thanksgiving holiday county.     Last week, Toms River Mayor Mo Hill continued promoting employee appreciation certificates at town hall on the township’s Facebook page and has yet to issue a statement on the growing outbreak of COVID-19 in the community.  On Sunday, Toms River reported 92 cases, the highest single-day total in the township since the pandemic began in March.

Find out what is going on with Toms River Mayor Mo Hill here.

Last week, the Toms River Regional School District moved to an all-remote school model but is planning on returning to a hybrid model on December 7th, according to Superintendent Dan Healy. Originally, the hybrid model was to start on November 14th, but Healy and the school board, on November 30th announced the new date.

“The COVID-19 Activity Level Report currently lists our area as High Risk. This designation requests consideration of an all-remote learning environment, and it was our determination last week that going all-remote would help ensure the safety of our community in the context of an upward trend in positive cases,” Healy said. “We believe our cautious approach was the right one, placing us in a stronger position to re-implement hybrid, in-person learning. If, however, our “Central East” area moves to the Very High-Risk designation, we may likely be required to transition back to remote learning districtwide.”

Ocean County COVID-19 positives November 27th through December 4th, 2020:

TRENTON, NJ – Talking about loopholes in his executive order banning indoor youth sports, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy issued a warning to youth sports programs running illegal black-market, clandestine youth sports operations, he knows who you are and where you are.

According to Matt Arco of the Star-Ledger, Karens across New Jersey have been complaining to the newspaper about sports teams continuing their indoor sports training, risking the lives of countless thousands of New Jerseyans.  The Ledger reporter asked the governor how he can crack down on those ruffians.

“We’ve also received a number of complaints about people using loopholes in your recent order banning indoor sports. They include hockey rinks running, quote, scale drills that are supposedly unaffiliated organized group team activity where, for example, kids were told to leave their jerseys at home,” Arco asked Murphy. “Another example is of gymnastics classes and things like that. You know, with youth sports not being able to be as closely monitored as college or professional, how do you crack down on these folks that are just finding these loopholes, while also not going after gyms and other venues that are allowed to be open under this indoor ban?”

The horror.  Murphy asked the reporter for a list of sports speakeasies to get the ball rolling on good old fashioned COVID-19 lockdown compliance.

“Listen, I don’t want to put you at risk, Matt but I’d like to know where those places are, those people are, because that does not make me happy. And yes, it’s not easy to enforce this stuff,” Murphy said. “I’ve said this, Pat I don’t think you disagree, there’s no amount of law enforcement in any American state that can get into every nook and cranny. If folks out there are willfully behaving badly, shame on you. Shame on you, like leaving your jersey at home. And by the way, you’re infecting the kid or the parent. I mean, who do you think you are? Come on. That is completely unacceptable.”

Murphy did not elaborate on the punitive actions of his COVID-19 compliance arm regarding his plan to act against the youth sports programs accused of violating his executive orders.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – A 60-year-old terrorist and conspirator to Osama Bin Laden has been freed from a federal detention facility in New Jersey because of the dangers posed to him by COVID-19 and his co-morbidity, obesity.   Adel Abdel Barry was convicted for killing 224 people in a deadly bombing in Africa in 1998 at two U.S. embassies.  He has been in prison in the United States for 21 years.

According to court documents, his lawyer pleaded for his early release.

“Mr. Bary’s continued incarceration now significantly increases his risk of infection, which could wreak disastrous health outcomes,” court documents say.

U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan agreed and now, he’s living in the United Kingdom where he has been granted asylum.

Abdel Barry didn’t get to see the sights and sounds in New Jersey as he was detained by ICE and immediately removed from the United States upon his release.  He was let out on October 9th and released from an ICE detention facility this past Wednesday.

The U.K. was not happy about his arrival in their country either. He could not return to his native country of Egypt, because he would be at a high risk to face torture or even death there.   Barry served as Osama Bin Laden’s spokesperson during his tenure with Al Qaeda.  In 2015, Abdel was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the United States.

CAPE CORAL, FL – A man was arrested after pointing a gun at a victim during a road rage incident, then later falsely claiming to be a police officer.

On Thursday December 10th at around 9:00 a.m., the Cape Coral Police Department’s Telephone Response Unit received a call about a road rage incident that had occurred an hour prior. The victim stated he had been making a U-turn at the intersection of Santa Barbara Boulevard and Tropicana Parkway to head south when a sport utility vehicle tailgated him, then pulled alongside him and swerved toward him. The victim then said the SUV driver pointed a black pistol at him. He pulled over to avoid the threat, then saw the SUV pull into the parking lot of Sam’s Club at 301 SW Pine Island Road.

The victim entered the lot in an attempt to read the SUV’s plate, obtaining a number and seeing a white male approximately 6 feet tall, openly carrying a pistol on his hip. The victim was then approached by a witness who had witnessed the road rage incident, and who had approached the gun-carrying suspect at the Sam’s gas pumps to tell him he could not open carry in Florida. The suspect told the witness he was a law enforcement officer, and provided the witness with his name.

Through strong interviewing and investigative work by the officer who took the initial call and later follow-up by Major Crimes detectives, the suspect was identified as Thomas Bartlett (W/M, DOB: 8-6-61) and probable cause was developed for Bartlett’s arrest on several charges: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a firearm, false personation of a law enforcement officer, and open carrying of a weapon.

Bartlett was located the next day (December 11th) at his home and placed under arrest. He was then transported to the Lee County Jail.

The Cape Coral Police Department would like to stress the importance of contacting police immediately if in a similar situation. Quick contact and a quick police response can keep all parties involved safer and avoid any escalation or further danger.
