NORTH NAPLES, FL – Deputies arrested a 29-year-old man Tuesday after he used fraudulent identification to purchase merchandise from a North Naples auto parts store. Rey Ernesto Borroto Derrick of 8690 Weir Drive, Unit 305, is charged with identity theft, credit card fraud and petty theft. Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports gave this account:

Two men entered Advance Auto Parts, 1935 Pine Ridge Road, and requested assistance. One of the men, later identified as Borroto Derrick, purchased two calipers, two rotors, brake fluid, and two ignition coils. Borroto Derrick used a credit card and a pin number to complete the transaction which totaled more than $600.

As the salesman was assisting the pair, he received a phone call from the victim saying his credit card had just been used at the store. The salesman provided the amounts of the purchase just made by Borroto Derrick which the victim confirmed to be the amounts used by his card.

The salesman excused himself and alerted law enforcement. Borroto Derrick and his companion fled the store and drove off in a black Chevrolet Camaro. Deputies located the Camaro at the intersection of Savannah Court and Plantation Circle in East Naples and conducted a traffic stop. Borroto Derrick was one of two passengers in the vehicle. The vehicle owner gave deputies permission to search the vehicle. The search turned up the items that Borroto Derrick had just purchased at Advance Auto Parts inside the trunk.

Borroto Derrick was taken into custody and booked into the Collier County jail on the felony and misdemeanor charges.

HERNANDO, FL – On October 10th, 2020, members of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team arrested an armed suspect who had barricaded himself inside of a Hernando home after killing one victim, and threatening four others.  The suspect responsible for the incident has been identified as 62-year-old William Poole of Hernando. Witnesses have told detectives that, following a verbal altercation with the victim, Pool’s father-in-law 80-year-old William White, Poole pulled a firearm from his pocket and shot Mr. White in a senseless act of violence. The suspect then continued to fire at deputies and neighboring residences until deputies convinced Poole to put down his weapon and surrender.
After Poole was taken into custody by SWAT team members, detectives with CCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division interviewed Poole and placed him under arrest, charging him with 2nd Degree Murder, seven counts of Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, and two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Poole’s bond was set at $255,000 per the bond schedule.
At approximately 4:00 PM, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) received reports of an armed suspect barricaded inside of a home with shots fired near the intersection of Highway 41 and Van Ness Road in Hernando. Deputies immediately responded to the scene and began securing the area. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team, as well as the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, also responded and began working to safely remove the four victims being held inside the home. SWAT team members, as well as Drone Operators, from our partners at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) also responded to assist.

As the situation developed, members of both the CCSO SWAT team and the SCSO SWAT team were able to safely remove the four victims from an adjacent structure. Following their rescue, the victims began working with the CCSO Crisis Negotiation Team in an attempt to talk the suspect out of the home without further incident. After an hour of speaking to the suspect, SWAT team members were able to convince the suspect to lay down the weapon and surrender to deputies, who then took the individual into custody. Unfortunately, deputies located one victim deceased on scene.
“Members of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office specialty teams undergo extensive training year round to ensure they are prepared for incidents such as this one,” said Sheriff Mike Prendergast. “The tireless efforts of our patrol deputies, the SWAT team, the Crisis Negotiation Team, and our partners at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office saved the life of four innocent people today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim. Our detectives will continue to work diligently to bring them justice.”
Detectives of CCSO’s Major Crimes Unit will continue to investigate this incident, and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office will provide updates as they become available. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office at (352) 726-1121 and ask for the Major Crimes Unit.

As of Tuesday, October 13, there are currently 38 states and territories that meet the criteria stated above: Alabama; Alaska; Arkansas; Colorado; Delaware; Florida; Georgia; Guam; Iowa; Idaho; Indiana; Illinois; Kansas; Kentucky; Louisiana; Michigan; Minnesota; Missouri; Mississippi; Montana; North Carolina; North Dakota; Nebraska; New Mexico; Nevada; Ohio; Oklahoma; Puerto Rico; Rhode Island; South Carolina; South Dakota; Tennessee; Texas; Utah; Virginia; Wisconsin; West Virginia; and Wyoming.

Travelers and those residents who are returning from impacted states should self-quarantine at their home, hotel, or other temporary lodging. Individuals should leave the place of self-quarantine only to seek medical care/treatment or to obtain food and other essential items.

It is expected that individuals will follow the public health advisory to self-quarantine. The list of states will be updated on a rolling basis and is accessible here.

MELBOURNE, FL – Brevard County Sheriff’s K-9 Junny is back on the job after spending some R&R and rehab at the Animal Specialty and Emergency Hospital in Melbourne, under the care of Dr. Smith. Junny had to take a leave of absence after having an alergic reaction to an antibiotic causing him to get vertigo.

“A huge thank you to Dr. Thomas Smith and his team at  (ASEH) for taking such great care of Junny,” the department said.  “Dr. Smith and the team at ASEH worked closely with our own Veterinarians, Dr. Boyd and Dr. Jenkins to give Junny the absolute best care possible during a very stressful time for him and all of us at the Sheriff’s Office that were so worried about his condition.”

As a result of the allergic reaction and vertigo “Junny” spent several days at the hospital and was taken great care of by the staff who spoiled him rotten, but also gave him the best medical care you could ever imagine.

“Junny is thankfully healthy and back at work, so he recently stopped by to outfit the staff of Animal Specialty and Emergency Hospital with his “Junny the Mascot” shirts and to give them all a big slobbery kiss for taking care of him,” the department said.

BAKER COUNTY, FL _ On September 30, 2020 at approximately 4:30 a.m., two suspects entered a storage shed located behind Bennett’s Feed on U.S. Highway 90 and stole numerous pellet / BB rifles valued at approximately $925 in total. Shortly after assuming the investigation, detectives identified the suspects using surveillance footage, as Mark Stoddard Jr. and Tricia Bennett, both of Baker County. In an interview with Bennett (no relation to the feed store), she admitted to assisting Stoddard in committing the burglary and stealing the BB guns, and led Detectives to a location where most of the property was recovered. Stoddard, however, did not cooperate with law enforcement in this investigation and went into what can only be assumed was his version of “hiding”. A day later he was captured in Duval County after attempting to scale a barbed wire fence during a rather brief foot pursuit from JSO officers & BCSO detectives. Both suspects were arrested and charged with burglary of Bennett’s Feed and grand theft.

ANCHORAGE, AK – The stakes have never been higher for the stars of Discovery Channel’s hit television show Gold Rush as Parker Schnable, Rick Ness, Tony Beets and Fred Lewis risk it all during a global pandemic to strike it rich.

Discovery reports:

When a global pandemic shut down the world in March 2020, markets crashed and rocked the U.S. economy. However, with economic uncertainty comes great opportunity for those who can seize upon the moment. And in the goldfields across North America, the opportunity of a lifetime awaited as gold prices spiked to record highs and the price of fuel, a miner’s biggest expense, bottomed out. In this all-new season of Gold Rush, seasoned gold miners are joined by greenhorn miners eager to forge their own destinies and gamble like never before in pursuit of the greatest pay day of their lives. The all-new season of Gold Rush premieres with a two-hour special Friday Oct. 23 at 8PM ET/PT and will continue to air Fridays at 8PM ET/PT for the remainder of the season.

Gold miners Parker Schnabel, Tony Beets and Rick Ness take massive gambles this season as they face the worst time crunch ever as the gold fields opened two months late because of COVID-19. And joining Gold Rushthis season is ex-special forces medic and greenhorn miner Fred Lewis who takes his destiny into his own hands as he strikes out with a band of out of work veterans in the hopes to hitting it big in the gold fields of Oregon.

Parker Schnabel arrives in the Yukon one month late with massive ambitions to expand his mining business beyond the Klondike.  His goal is to bank enough gold to buy new ground and he’s determined not to let the COVID-19 pandemic slow him down. As soon as he can, Parker assembles his crew and doubles down – opening two enormous operations. This season, Parker will rely more than ever on his crew to keep his operation running while he heads out to prospect new ground in Alaska and beyond.  But with gold prices spiking, the cost of rich ground also goes up, so the pressure is on co-foremen Mitch and Brennan, and rookie plant boss Tyson to battle breakdowns and disasters to make the team enough gold to afford new ground.

After two seasons of missed goals, Tony Beets is ready to take advantage of the perfect mining conditions. If he can identify the last of the virgin ground on Paradise Hill, this could be a record season for him, ensuring the success of the future Beets generation. Tony is determined to hit his goal of mining out the massive Mega Cut in just one year. It’s an ambitious engineering feat that require the Beets family to move massive tons of earth.  To be successful, Tony will have to dig deep into his arsenal of mining equipment.

Rick Ness can’t afford another season of failures. For years he has worked with mining prodigy Parker Schnabel, rising to rank of foreman. Two years ago, Rick struck off on his own. After a strong debut, he suffered a major setback last year and lost all his profits, leaving him in the position to barely break even. To make matters worse, half his crew deserted him.  Rick treads a troubled track; if he doesn’t turn a profit this year, his mining career is over. And he starts the season behind schedule with just two of his buddies to help him get started. But this time Rick will not let the challenges stop him from achieving success. With Karla and Kruse, he heads to new ground in the mountains above Keno – the land of massive nuggets – for his last shot at striking it rich in gold.

As millions of Americans face unemployment during COVID-19, special forces veteran and rookie miner Fred Lewis risks everything and heads to the mountains of Oregon looking for a gold mine of his own. With fellow veteran and experienced miner Kendell Madden, Fred leases a piece of ground with huge prospects. When his test run shows good gold, they assemble a band of down on their luck ex-servicemen and women eager to turn around their fortunes. Following in the footsteps of countless Americans who’ve sought their fortune in the wilderness, this band of brothers will be tested like never before on their quest to control their own destinies and hit the motherlode.

This season ofGold Rush is unmatched. Gold miners are essential workers, and as the four gold miners and their crews battle the time crunch and elements in the hope of finding millions of dollars in gold during a global pandemic, one thing is certain. Once gold fever strikes, these crews will never give up.

In addition to watching the series on Discovery, viewers can check out new episodes each week on DiscoveryGO.  Viewers can join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #GoldRush and follow Gold Rush on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter for the latest updates.

Gold Rush is produced for Discovery Channel by Raw Television, where Dimitri Doganis, James Bates, Mike Gamson, and Tom Sheahan are executive producers.  For Discovery Channel, Carter Figueroa is executive producer and Greg Wolf is coordinating producer

NEWPORT BEACH, CA – A new and potentially awkward season of HGTV’s hit show “Flip or Flop” is scheduled to start airing Thursday night. That’s because divorced couple Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead are coming in with even more marital baggage.   The couple divorced in 2018 and Christine remarried to Ant Anstead later that year.  Tarek is now newly engaged to Heather Rae Young on July 4th.  Although the couple has been filming together with some underhanded comments and barbs against each other over the years, this year’s romance drama could heat up.  The couple share two children, Taylor and Brayden.   Now, Christine, with a 1-year-old with Ant Anstead has announced the couple’s impending divorce.  Things can get dicey and who knows, maybe the couple can mend fences and get back together this year?

According to HGTV, they are still always ready to renovate and flip any run-down house with potential.  This season the couple will buy, rehab and sell more of SoCal’s dilapidated properties in a new season of HGTV’s hugely popular series Flip or Flop, premiering Thursday, Oct. 15, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The business partners, whose lives on and off camera generate big buzz among millions of social media followers, attracted more than 23 million viewers to the series last season. In the new episodes, they continue to navigate both the expected and surprising challenges of co-parenting their kids—Taylor, 9, and Brayden, 5—while running a successful business.

“Taylor and Brayden are the reason behind everything we do,” said Tarek. “They are both happy and healthy and the flipping business is thriving.”

“Tarek and I have a common goal to create beautiful houses for families,” said Christina. “We work hard but our priority is spending quality time with our wonderful kids and raising them to appreciate the love of family.”

In the season premiere, Tarek and Christina buy a small two-bedroom house in hopes of selling for a big price tag. To increase the value, they add fresh curb appeal with new paint and landscaping, build a large, bright kitchen, and install a stunning tile wall in the bathroom. Throughout the season, the pair races to snatch up desirable properties in LA’s hot real estate market, takes on homes with challenging floorplans and overhauls what is possibly their grossest flip yet.

For fans who don’t want to wait until Oct. 15 to see more of Tarek and Christina, there’s more good news. The season two finale of Christina’s solo series, Christina on the Coast, will air Thursday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. And, on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, Tarek will return in four new episodes of Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa as he mentors real estate novices who want to learn the secrets of a successful flip. A special one-hour episode featuring Tarek’s fiancée, real estate agent Heather Rae Young, will air on Oct. 8 at 9 p.m.

Fans are invited to stay connected with Flip or Flop on HGTV’s digital platforms. The new episodes will be available on HGTV GO the same day as the TV premieres—Thursdays beginning Oct. 15. Fans can visit www.HGTV.com/FliporFlop for exclusive videos, photos and more information about upcoming episodes and can interact via social media using #FliporFlop. Fans also can connect with Tarek and Christina on Instagram at @therealtarekelmoussa and @christinaanstead.
