TOMS RIVER, NJ – The good news is if you’re a professional soccer player on Governor Phil Murphy’s women’s soccer team you can play ball.  If you’re anyone else, you can’t.  It’s not just soccer either.  As professional sports were given the green light to resume training, the children of New Jersey who have just sacrificed the past two months for Governor Phil Murphy for a disease that has little impact on their own lives are still sitting on the bench.

Today, South Jersey Assemblymen Antwan McClellan and Erik Simonsen are calling on Gov. Phil Murphy to reopen the state’s youth sports leagues for the summer season after he cleared professional teams to resume activities noting the immense benefits this action would provide to local businesses which have been harmed by the Governor’s mandated shutdown of the state’s economy.

Murphy announced Tuesday that professional sports teams, including Sky Blue FC – which he co-owns with his wife Tammy, can resume training and even competition amid the coronavirus pandemic if the leagues choose to move in that direction.

“It is striking to see that the governor’s own soccer team is allowed to play while our kids sit at home with their bats, sticks and balls locked away in a closet.  That’s not fair,” said McClellan (R-Cape May).  “I see no reason why a well-run little league or summer basketball league couldn’t meet or surpass the guidelines set forth by doctors to safely conduct games and enjoy the experience.”

Many travel basketball, baseball and softball leagues, club volleyball and countless other sports have begun preparing reasonable, science-based plans to resume operations.  These operations will have a beneficial effect on hard-hit local small businesses that provide equipment, facilities, and related goods and services for these amateur leagues.

“If the pros can play, then why can’t our kids,” said Simonsen (R-Cape May).  “Youth sports are an important leisure industry here in New Jersey and across the nation.  A failure to open this summer could bring about the demise of these opportunities for families and kids. We won’t allow that.”

Little League Baseball and Softball outlined a plan that protects players, coaches, umpires and families so affiliated organizations around the country can safely resume their seasons.  Other youth sports and facilities could use the Little League model for their reopening.

“Playing youth sports will help kids, their parents and scores of small businesses that depend upon the summer season to make it through the year,” said Simonsen.  “We need to safely and responsibly reopen now.”

Like the hospitality industry fueling South Jersey, youth sports is reliant on bringing children and their families together on fields and in gyms. The summer is the big money season because family vacations are often planned around travel team tournaments.

A 2014 study published by Utah State University found that American families spent an average of $2,292 each year on youth sports with much of this money going to local businesses and facilities that work with the youth sports leagues.

PARAMUS, NJ – More than 100 veterans have died in the state-run New Jersey Veterans Home in Paramus and when 13-year-old Alex Saldana learned what was happening just down the street from his home in April, he sprung into action.  Each night, Saldana plays taps in front of the home in honor of the veterans who died during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He’s even caught the eye of New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer who this week thanked young Saldana, “Thank you to Alex Saldana of Oradell’s Boy Scout Troop 36 for playing taps outside the Paramus Veterans Home every night in honor of all our veterans! We must always get the backs of those who’ve bravely served our nation, especially during this difficult time.”

On Memorial Day,  Gottheimer and Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr. even joined Saldana during his performance.

“We have met so many wonderful veterans and family members through this journey, many who we now call friends,” said proud mom Melissa Saldana. “Those who lost loved ones at the NJ Veterans Home at Paramus due to Covid-19 shared their beautiful stories with us. May we never forget the sacrifice our veterans made. They are our heroes.”

CINNAMINSON, NJ – It’s been two months since this Cinnaminson grandmother was able to see her grandchildren, so she did what any sensible grandma in the Phil Murphy quarantine would do.  She went on to Amazon and bought a unicorn costume to serve as her PPE so she could visit the grandkids and give them all a long-overdue hug.

If you’ve ever played sports and watched sports at any amateur level, then you know exactly who the coach’s wife is. She’s supportive, she’s sometimes the biggest fan of the team and, well, you watch and see for yourself.

TOMS RIVER, NJ – John Russo’s status as a former Ocean County Superior Court judge is now official.  This week, New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Stuart J. Rabner sealed the deal for the Ocean County lawyer who made light of a rape victim’s ordeal in court. Russo was previously suspended by the court for asking a rape victim if she could have closed her legs, then joked with court staff about the incident afterward.

The decision by the state Supreme Court against Russo was unanimous, citing Russo had committed repeated and serious acts of misconduct while serving as a judge in Ocean County. ““No reasonable victim could have confidence in a court system were he to preside over those kinds of cases again,” Justice Rabner said.

According to the court transcript, Russo was questioning a rape victim about her alleged assault when he said, “Do you know to stop somebody from having intercourse with you?”

The woman responded with a logical answer, “Run away or try to get away.”

“Block your body parts? Close Your Legs?” Russo asked the victim. “Call the police? Did you do any of those things?”

“Judges set the tone for a courtroom. Especially when it comes to sensitive matters like domestic violence and sexual assault, that tone must be dignified, solemn, and respectful, not demeaning or sophomoric. Judge Russo failed in that regard,” Justice Rabner said in his decision.

CASTLE ROCK, CO – A couple who owns a restaurant in Colorado is now suing their Governor after he ordered the health department to revoke their business license.  Jesse and April Arellano claim Colorado Governor Jared Polis singled out their business for the sole point to make an example and promote a political agenda.

C & C Breakfast & Korean Kitchen is a dine-in restaurant and coffee shop with two locations–one in Colorado Springs and one in Castle Rock. The owners of the restaurant, Jesse and April Arellano, not only invested a substantial amount of their own money while taking out significant loans in order to grow the business since 2013. They also invested their time and talent, restructured their family time, and adapted their livelihoods in order to have the opportunity to make the business a success.

Their story is not unlike those of millions since our nation’s founding who attempted to earn a living, provide for their families, and positively contribute to society through their endeavors by operating a small business. The story of the Are llanos and C & C Breakfast & Korean Kitchen is not necessarily unique, but it is now crucially important.

On May 10, 2020, C & C Breakfast & Korean Kitchen (C&C) opened its doors at the Castle Rock location for dine-in service, which attracted hundreds of members of the community to the restaurant to enjoy a meal with their families and engage in social and political discourse.

Normally, this would not be considered an unusual or shocking activity. The difference is that, since March 17, 2020, their restaurant ceased all on-premises dining in an effort to comply with state executive orders that sought to forcibly close all dine-in service restaurants that were deemed, arbitrarily and irrationally by government, to be “non-critical.” Despite making a good faith effort to comply with these executive agency orders, the result was an economic catastrophe for the Arellanos and their small business.

In an effort to save themselves, their employees, and their once profitable business from financial ruin, the restaurant opened for dine-in service on Mother’s Day – May 10, 2020. 6. Their action of simply opening their restaurant to customers as so many other businesses were allowed to do, and which did attract many community members and political supporters, received a substantial amount of mainstream and social media attention. In response to this “reopening,” Governor Polis held a press conference the following day and castigated the Arellanos and their customers for their ideology and unscientific views. The governor indicated such media attention given to disobedient citizens caused “fear” among the public and as a result, he ordered the Health Department to suspend the C&C License to Operate a Retail Food Establishment.

Both the business license suspension order and the Tri-County Health Department order closing the premises to all businesses were issued on May 11, 2020, the same day as the Governor’s press conference. The restaurant has been closed since May 11, 2020. In a subsequent press conference, on May 20, 2020, Governor Polis expressed additional disdain for some of his constituents saying there “are always Coloradans who are going to be ignorant and selfish” in response to Coloradans swimming in Boulder Creek on a warm, sunny day.

“The coordinated, heavy-handed actions of the Governor of the State of Colorado, and the Director of CDPHE included designating the patrons of C&C as imminent health hazards,” the Arellanos said.  “This action was done with the knowledge or foreseeable consequence that it would deprive [us] of our livelihood and ability to operate their business after we simply allowed customers onto the premises to serve food and beverages.”

“The matter before this Honorable Court is more than just a case of executive authority overreach and constitutional violations. It implicates the core principles of our nation’s founding and the rule of law,” the lawsuit states. “Since the first reported case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the United States in January 2020, and after it began to receive significant national and local media attention, various governmental entities across the nation have been implementing various sweeping and economically devastating schemes in response to fluctuating, often inaccurate projections of COVID-19 related mass illness and death. Colorado’s Governor, Jared Polis, initially shut down the state and ordered people to stay home and now, nearly 10 weeks later, continues arbitrarily categorizing essential and non-essential businesses to the extreme detriment of Plaintiffs.”

LAS VEGAS, NV – As America begins to reopen, Nevada’s casinos will also be reopening next week, according to Governor Steve Sisolak.  “We’ve taken every precaution possible. I don’t think you’re going to find a safer place to come than Las Vegas by June 4, with the protocols that we’ve put in place, than the testing that we’ve put in place, with the contact tracing that will be in place by that time,” Sisolak said in a press conference. “We’re encouraging visitors to come and enjoy themselves and have a good time.”

Sisolak announced that Nevada is ready to move into Phase 2 of the state’s Nevada United: Roadmap to Recovery reopening plan on Friday, May 29.

“Nevadans have done an incredible job helping to flatten the curve and I want to again thank you for understanding the severity of this health care crisis and for taking the necessary precautionary measures, like making a face covering a part of everyday wear,” Gov. Sisolak said. “Our collective actions have helped bring us to where we are today, ready to begin Phase 2 of reopening.”

While casinos are reopening, brothels and strip clubs will remain closed.

Businesses that remain closed in Phase 2 include:

  • Adult entertainment establishments
  • Brothels
  • Nightclubs and day clubs
  • Live sporting event venues and live performance venues WITH spectators.

In Phase 2, events with live performances and live performers will not be allowed WITH spectators. However, certain events will be allowed under specific restrictions for the purpose of broadcasting or live streaming – but they will NOT include a live audience or any spectators.

This may include sporting events, concerts, theater performances, or other entertainment type events. There will be also be protocols for other spectator less events that won’t be filmed or broadcasted.

To hold a closed or spectator-less event, an Event Operator shall submit an Operation Plan to the appropriate state authority with jurisdiction over the event. For example, the Gaming Control Board will approve these events on gaming properties, and the Nevada Athletic Commission will approve these events for any athletic competitions that it regulates. For those that don’t fall within the jurisdiction of the Nevada Athletic Commission or the Gaming Control Board, they will be approved by the Nevada Department of Business & Industry.

TRENTON, NJ – After scientists have warned of a second wave of COVID-19 this fall, New Jersey Senator Robert Singer said the Garden State must be better prepared to handle it before it comes. Just as it did to health care workers and first responders, the virus pandemic stressed the capabilities of local and county health departments to the breaking point. Singer said he is determined to ensure the small, over-burdened health departments are better prepared for expanded public safety roles if the coronavirus resurfaces in the fall.

“As bad as the virus has been in New Jersey, claiming the lives of 11,000 people, we may well have dodged a bullet this time,” said Singer (R-30). “However, health experts and scientists warn a second wave of COVID is almost inevitable without coordinated, aggressive efforts. The next round could be even more dangerous, and it is essential our local and county health departments have the tools necessary to effectively respond to outbreaks. We must be battle ready at the local, county and state levels.”

Senator Singer will introduce legislation to establish the “Local Health Department Infectious Disease Preparedness Study Commission” to study the roles, responsibilities and response of local and county health departments to the outbreak and provide guidance for future incidents.

“The state response to the crisis has been underwhelming. Efforts to implement widespread testing were frustratingly slow and tedious,” said Singer. “The study commission will provide vital insight if the Administration plans to continue relying on local and county departments to carry the ball.”

report published by ProPublica found that New Jersey depends on small, local health departments more than any other state. Often, as was noted in the article, those small departments have been rebuffed when they sought guidance from the State on how to handle pandemic response, which is far outside their regular duties and beyond their capabilities.

“The pandemic has stretched local and county departments far beyond their missions, and we must examine why we’re the only state operating this way,” Singer said.

Under the headline, “In Hard-Hit New Jersey, COVID-19 Saddles Some Small Health Departments with Crushing Workload,” ProPublica cited secretaries working as contact tracers, a person normally in charge of pet shops and tattoo parlors monitoring nursing homes, and growing concerns that the workload will increase on local and county departments.

The preparedness commission’s work will go beyond the current crisis and consider strategies and concerns for all public health challenges.

Singer’s bill could be introduced as early as Thursday, when the Senate next convenes for a quorum.

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that a Pemberton Township man and his girlfriend have been charged with possessing illegal explosives after two pipe bombs were discovered during the execution of search warrants at their home and the residence of an acquaintance in Southampton.

William Heath, 47, and Ashley Sprague, 32, of the 600 block of Lakehurst Road, were charged with Possession of Explosives/Bombs for an Unlawful Purpose and Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices. Heath was also charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose for carrying a revolver.

The investigation began earlier this month after law enforcement officials received information that Heath and Sprague were in possession of illegal explosives.

Search warrants were executed May 22 at their Pemberton home, as well as a residence in Southampton where they had been recently staying. Two pipe bombs were discovered, one at the Pemberton house and another inside a truck owned by Heath that was parked at the Southampton residence, where he and Sprague were taken into custody.

It is believed that Heath manufactured the pipe bombs. Heath was ordered detained by a Superior Court judge and is lodged in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly. Sprague is scheduled for a detention hearing tomorrow. The case will be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment. Heath and Sprague will be prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Michael Angermeier, supervisor of the BCPO Gang, Gun & Narcotics Task Force (GGNTF).

The cooperative investigation included personnel from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the BCPO Gang, Gun & Narcotics Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New Jersey State Police, and the Pemberton Township Police Department.

CENTRAL PARK, NY – A woman who became famous in a viral video this weekend after she threatened to make false charges against a black man in Central Park has even more problems to worry about.   In the video, she was asked to put her dog on a leash after it was unleashed in the leash-only section of the park.  A man passing by offered to give her dog a treat and she flipped out.  She went on to threaten the man, calling the police on him, claiming that he was a black man ready to assault her and her dog.  While arguing with the man, the woman’s dog was clearly in distress, getting choked and yanked from side to side.

Turns out, he was just some nice guy trying to do the right thing for the right reason and trying to help.  Well, not really, he was annoyed, apparently because he was bird watching and the woman’s dog was unleashed.

Now, with her identity revealed, she’s in a world of trouble.  It turns out her name is Amy Cooper and she is…or was the head of insurance investment solutions at Franklin Templeton, a global mutual fund firm.

“We take these matters very seriously, and we do not condone racism of any kind,” Franklin Templeton said in a statement. “While we are in the process of investigating the situation, the employee involved has been put on administrative leave.”

To make matters worse, on Monday Cooper surrendered her dog to the rescue where she got it from.

“As of this evening, the owner has voluntarily surrendered the dog in question to our rescue while this matter is being addressed,” Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue posted on their Facebook page after receiving the dog. “The dog is now in our rescue’s care and he is safe and in good health,”

Cooper later told NBC, she raged because she didn’t know what was in the dog treat Christian Cooper was offering.

Christian Cooper’s sister, Melody, who is a Sci-Fi Horror writer for CW and HBO posted the original video on Twitter that sent the twitterverse spiraling out of control.

“Oh, when Karens take a walk with their dogs off leash in the famous Bramble in NY’s Central Park, where it is clearly posted on signs that dogs MUST be leashed at all times, and someone like my brother (an avid birder) politely asks her to put her dog on the leash,” Melody Cooper said.

Yes, everyone in this story is a Cooper and we’d bet, most likely, not related.

LIVINGSTON, NJ – A Morris County, New Jersey, man today admitted maliciously calling in a bomb threat to the Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

James Triano, 38, of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty to an indictment charging him with maliciously conveying false information about an explosive.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

On March 21, 2017, Triano called Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston, New Jersey. He told a representative of that synagogue there was a bomb located in the building that would explode in 30 minutes. Triano conveyed this information about the bomb knowing that it was false. The bomb threat resulted in a substantial disruption to the synagogue and its congregation as well as to the public.

The count with which Triano has pleaded guilty is punishable by a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 30, 2020.

U.S. Attorney Carpenito credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Gregory W. Ehrie in Newark, and officers from the Livingston Police Department, under the direction of Police Chief Gary Marshuetz, with the investigation leading to today’s guilty plea.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine R. Murphy of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Newark.

WILMINGTON, DE – Governor John Carney on Tuesday announced that the State of Delaware will lift the ban on short-term rental units and the mandatory 14-day quarantine for out-of-state travelers on June 1 as part of the rolling reopening of Delaware’s economy.

Governor Carney previously lifted State of Delaware restrictions on Delaware beaches ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

Phase 1 of Delaware’s economic reopening is scheduled to begin on June 1, allowing retail establishments, restaurants and other businesses to open at 30 percent of stated fire capacity with social distancing requirements and other public health guidance in place.

Read the State of Delaware’s Phase 1 economic reopening guidance.

“We want visitors to enjoy Delaware, our world-class beaches and restaurants, but it’s important that everyone remember that COVID-19 is still very much active in Delaware,” said Governor Carney. “Delawareans who visited our beaches this past weekend acted responsibly, taking basic precautions to protect their families and their neighbors. Thank you. We all need to continue taking steps to protect our most vulnerable. Those steps aren’t complicated. Wash your hands frequently. Maintain distance between yourself and others. Wear a face covering when you’re in a public setting. Don’t let up.”

Governor Carney also announced on Tuesday that outdoor gatherings of up to 250 people – including weddings and outdoor graduation ceremonies – will be permitted in Delaware beginning on June 1, with basic public health precautions in place to protect against spread of COVID-19. Cloth face coverings must be worn in accordance with Governor Carney’s State of Emergency declaration, and individuals must maintain social distance of at least six feet from anyone outside of their household.

Gatherings over 250 individuals are not permitted during Phase 1. However, organizers of planned outdoor large gatherings and events may apply to host a large gathering or event by submitting a plan to the Delaware Division of Small Business at least seven days prior to the event. The Delaware Department of Education will release guidance for outdoor graduations later today.

Read the State of Delaware’s guidance for outdoor gatherings for full details.

Outdoor gatherings should only be carried out if there is strict adherence to social distancing and other public health guidance from the Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which are intended to protect the most vulnerable from COVID-19 infection and serious illness.

In conjunction with the easing of certain business, travel and gathering restrictions, Governor Carney will lift Delaware’s stay-at-home order effective June 1, but he cautioned that Delawareans should continue to avoid unnecessary outings and gatherings to limit community spread of COVID-19.

“We are where we are because Delawareans listened and stayed home,” said Governor Carney. “While we are slowly reopening our economy, it’s critical that Delawareans not rush out and undo all the hard work they’ve done to get us to this point. Let’s continue to be cautious and responsible as we ease our way into this new normal.”

The State of Delaware will release guidance later this week on summer school programs and summer camps.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ – Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra didn’t want to be the mayor from Jaws who reopened the beach the prompted more shark attacks.  Instead, he became the mayor like the one in Los Angeles who feared that coronavirus infected tourists would turn his town into a scene out of Zombieland.  Now, after hiding out this weekend, away from the Freedom Rally that took place in his town on Monday, Kanitra is riding a different wave.

“Following the success of a very safe Memorial Day weekend, the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach is now ready to move forward with a broader reopening,” Kanitra said after emerging from his Memorial Day lockdown.  “This morning, the Mayor, Chief of Police, Borough Administrator and Head of Public Works toured the entire boardwalk with business owners and their security personnel to make final decisions on the logistics needed for social distancing. At this meeting, it was determined that the proper pieces were in place for an opening of our boardwalk and northern beaches on Friday May 29th.”

“Opening up corridors only on the boardwalk was ultimately deemed to be counterproductive to public safety and therefore all barriers will be removed accordingly, he added.

You don’t say?

“Private businesses will be doing their part by providing social distancing ambassadors along the portions where they service customers. Hand sanitizing stations have been set up at every beach access point and signage will be going up shortly,” he said, finally allowing his town’s businesses to put people back to work and bring in much-needed revenue, regardless of being a day late and a few tens of thousands of dollars short.

Rides, games and amusements remain closed by order of the Governor. Restaurants will be open for takeout only.  Parking restriction will allow for those dirty, infected out of towners to park in private and public lots, but the mayor still doesn’t want out-of-town ilk parking on his borough’s public streets.

To accommodate this opening, on Friday May 29th parking restrictions will be partially scaled back to allow for private and public lots to be opened. This will enable us to ensure everything is functioning safely before completely repealing all parking restrictions on Friday June 5th.

The inlet parking lot will be returned to normal operations effective Wednesday, May 27th. Guests must maintain a proper 6-foot distance at all times while fishing or conducting other activities, said the Phil Murphy protege.

FREEHOLD NJ – When the COVID-19 Wuhan Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 Virus (crisis) started to break, like many Americans, I was moved to get as much data as possible.  The earliest resource for information on what was going on in the World and United States crisis related was the Bing COVID Tracker.  Personally I found myself checking and rechecking the numbers several times a day.  The nation was and still is being plagued by the effects of this disease, which we still have a very limited understanding of.

In the weeks proceeding January 15, 2020, the first identified patient zero in The United States, generally, Americans had at least six degrees of separation from someone they knew that was affected by the crisis.  Discussing this nearly a half year later, those degrees of separation have shrunk, and if one has not been personally stricken with this disease, there is a high probability a friend or a family member has or a friend of a friend…Most people know of someone that got this thing.

There are some very important facts that need to be discussed before going forward:

1)  This is a very serious illness.
2)  People are dying from this.

Without digressing into the weeds on the subject, I think we can all embrace those two notions as fact.  My connection to this virus, to date, includes two confirmed instances of positive COVID-19 diagnoses.

One, a family friend in his early 30’s from Staten Island, NY, we’ll call him Tony.  Tony reported having a fever and was sick for over a week or so and eventually became one of the cases on a ventilator.  The full particulars of Tony’s actual experience, I did not get, other than a few quick direct messages and social media updates from his loved ones.  His mother and brother also were stricken with COVID-19, however, their cases were much milder than Tony’s.  Tony did after a short period get off the ventilator after about one week and the last update I got was of him finally being able to return home, walking into his house unassisted.  I tried to give them their space, he recovered, we’ll discuss the details another day.  Who wants to be bombarded by this?  Those cases were confirmed with testing.

Two, a friend in his early 50’s from Monmouth County New Jersey, we’ll call him Mr. Johnson.  I had ended up on a phone call with Johnson’s son back in late March.  While we were chatting, he made the offhand comment of “…well, you know it’s been tough with Dad because of COVID and all that…” just a statement, to which I interjected “Wh-what?  What do you mean?’  and then he went on to explain his father’s symptoms.  Johnson had the same, fever and flu-like symptoms and was in bed, knocked down and out for about two weeks.  He did develop respiratory problems but did not end up hospitalized.  I did eventually talk to Johnson and he told me he was locked up in his room for 23 days through the ordeal and even at that time, a couple of weeks after ending isolation, he was still experiencing some breathing issues, but overall was on the mend.  His case was confirmed via a test.

Over the last two months the public at large has been marinating for the most part in their own homes, in isolation.  The economic impacts and psychological effects are going to be long-lasting and far-reaching.  With not many choices, up until some recent loosening of restrictions, people have turned to the news and internet for information & entertainment.  Speculations and homegrown theories have been running rampant.  There are two science-based theories we are looking at concerning the crisis.  One being there will be a second wave and possibly tertiary, which will occur in the fall/winter, as has been the case with other past pandemics.  The other is that the curve will be completely flattened and this disease will go away.  We have been reliant on what information we are given by MSM, our State Governments, and the US Government.

Back to the Bing COVID tracker.  Bing is an internet search engine owned by Microsoft.  Admittedly, I was glued to the tracker at the onset of this crisis.  However, after obsessively checking it all the time, I just outright stopped.  I distilled my needs, and they did not include needing to know every single case that got added to the count.  Recently I decided to give the old Bing COVID tracker another check and specifically drilled down to The United States, New Jersey, and then Monmouth County.  The most shocking thing I noticed was there is a “-“ for recovered cases of COVID-19 in Monmouth County.  Microsoft, the big computer corporation, that was driving the bus on information gathering and dissemination is telling the world that there are no recovered cases of the virus in the county, is that what a “-“ means?  The who, what, where, and why to that number is pretty much unimportant.  They have a field for the number, it is blank.  If the data is unavailable, that’s exactly what it should say.  Compounding this, even more, there is a “-“ for recovered cases in the entire state of New Jersey.  Are we to believe that there are no confirmed recoveries?  That data is 100% unavailable?

People are getting fed up and tired of this entire situation.  To say this is an emotional rollercoaster would be an understatement.  Many are at their breaking points and the loosening of restrictions could help some problems but compound others.  With that, we are potentially being presented with bogus numbers and information, such as the ones discussed in the NBC news piece: ‘I’m looking for the truth’: States face criticism for COVID-19 data cover-ups.

Further a now-removed article from Politico dated May 19, 2020, New Jersey lowers Covid-19 death toll at long-term care facilities by 1,400, outlines the issues with official counts.  A cached version of the article can be viewed HERE.  The article opened with this statement:

New Jersey on Tuesday lowered the number of reported coronavirus-related deaths at the state’s long-term care facilities by about 1,400, after health officials determined those residents had not received a lab-confirmed diagnosis for Covid-19 before they died.

Also from the same article, we were given Governor Murphy’s statement:

“This will give us our best representation of what is happening within our long-term care facilities in comparison to the statewide number that we report,” Gov. Phil Murphy said during his daily briefing in Trenton. “We were not reporting these, as it turns out, apples to apples.”

Why this article was removed from Politico should cause everyone to call into question who is or is not truthfully reporting…and who may or may not be calling for information to be removed from the public’s eye.  More disturbing allegations about the crisis and truthful reporting have been surfacing, none of which should be ignored (Florida’s scientist was fired for refusing to ‘manipulate’ COVID-19 data).  At best, we are being hit with a lot of really bad information and sloppy record-keeping.  At worst, we are being lied to in a big way.  All of this is for each individual to think about and decide upon.  Do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

What does this all mean for Mr. Johnson, my buddy that was diagnosed with COVID-19 back in late march?  To my understanding, Johnson is a miracle, that’s the only explanation.  Because according to Bing, there is no record of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Monmouth county (or NJ).  So he either has had it for over 10 weeks and is still fighting the good fight, he is the first and only recovered COVID patient in the state and should call Governor Murphy to tell him to report that number, or he has perished and is dead man walking amongst us…either one of the three scenarios is impressive.  Do you know someone that has “recovered” from COVID-19 in Monmouth County or New Jersey?  They too may be a miraculous case of the undead walking amongst the living.

EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ  – U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the non-partisan national movement to limit terms for elected officials, praises, 2020 U.S. House candidate for New Jersey (district 3), David Richter, for signing the pledge for an amendment to term limit Congress.  The primary election is scheduled for July 7, 2020.

U.S. Term Limits has the support of 70 pledge signers in Congress. USTL President Philip Blumel commented on Richter’s pledge saying, “David’s support of term limits shows that there are individuals who are willing to put self-interest aside to follow the will of the people. America needs a Congress that will be served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”

The U.S. Term Limits amendment pledge is provided to every announced candidate for federal office. It reads, “I pledge that as a member of Congress, I will cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits amendment of three (3) House terms and two (2) Senate terms and no longer limit.” The U.S. Term Limits constitutional amendment has been introduced in both the U.S. Senate by Senator Ted Cruz (SJR1) and the U.S. House by Representative Francis Rooney (HJR20).

Blumel noted, “We have seen a dramatic increase in supporters wanting term limits on Congress. More than 82% of Americans have rejected the career politician model and want to replace it with citizen leadership. The way to achieve that goal is through congressional term limits.”

According to a 2018 nationwide poll on term limits conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, term limits enjoy wide bipartisan support. McLaughlin’s analysis states, “Support for term limits is broad and strong across all political, geographic and demographic groups. An overwhelming 82% of voters approve of a constitutional amendment that will place term limits on members of Congress.”

Blumel concluded, “America is in trouble. Our career politicians have let the people down. It is time to return control of our nation to the people. It is time for a constitutional amendment limiting congressional terms.”

The term limits amendment resolutions would require a two-thirds majority in the House and Senate, and ratification by 38 states, in order to become part of the U.S. Constitution.

Congressional term limits is the one bipartisan issue supported by both President Trump and former President Obama.

JACKSON, NJ – Six Flags, the parent company of Six Flags Great Adventure is introducing the  “new normal” in the amusement park industry as it released a promotional video explaining health and safety measures being implemented nationwide.  The first of the operator’s parks to open will be Frontier City in Oklahoma City on June 4th.

https://www.facebook.com/sixflags/videos/562928777750584/

All parks will employ a sophisticated online reservation system to manage attendance, schedule guests for entry by day, and stagger arrival times to minimize proximity exposure. Other new technologies include:

  • State-of-the-art thermal imaging for temperature checks;
  • Advanced security screening technology for touchless bag checks; and
  • Expanded mobile food ordering.

The park reopening plan, which the company developed with its epidemiologist consultants, meets or exceeds federal, state, and local guidelines. It sets standards for executing at the highest levels of hygiene and social distancing protocols.

Health Screenings for Guests and Team Members

  • Contact-less IR thermal imaging will be used to screen temperatures of guests and employees prior to entry; and individuals will be asked if they are healthy and will be required to acknowledge the company’s health policies;
  • All guests over the age of two and all team members will be required to wear face masks covering the nose and mouth throughout their visit/work day. Accommodations may be made on a case-by-case basis for persons with disabilities, health concerns, religious restrictions, or other circumstances that in Six Flags’ discretion warrant a modification of this face mask requirement; and
  • Any guest without a mask will be able to purchase one at the front gate.

Strictly Enforced Social Distancing

  • Easy to identify distance markers will be added in all park entry, ride, restroom, retail locations, and dining queue lines;
  • Dining areas will be adjusted to allow ample space between seated parties;
  • Guests will be separated by empty rows and/or seats on all roller coasters, rides, and attractions;
  • Six-foot viewing areas will be marked for guests to observe game play; arcade games will be reconfigured or deactivated to comply with social distancing requirements;
  • Advanced security screenings will enable touchless bag checks;
  • Capacity at indoor venues will be reduced to meet social distancing requirements; and
  • Guests viewing outdoor entertainment will be separated by at least six feet.

Extensive Sanitization and Disinfecting Protocols

  • Trained and dedicated cleaning teams have been put in place;
  • Increased sanitization and disinfecting of high touch points including all public seating, tabletops, counters, doors, and trash cans will occur frequently;
  • Rides, restraints, and handrails will be cleaned throughout the day;
  • Restroom staff will be stationed to disinfect each stall and sink area on a frequent basis;
  • Multiple hand-washing and alcohol-based hand-sanitizer stations will be located throughout the park; and
  • All team member work areas will be regularly sanitized and disinfected.

Sanitized Food Preparation and Service

  • Modified menus and implementation of mobile food ordering will help facilitate touchless transactions;
  • Self-service buffets and salad bars will be reconfigured to eliminate guest contact with food;
  • Condiments, self-serve cutlery, and napkins will be provided to guests with their meals as required; and
  • Beverages will be served by attendants, and guests will receive any drink bottle refills in a paper cup each time they refill.

Commercial-Grade Cleaning Equipment and Supplies

  • All employees will be issued Team Member Action Packs which will include: a safety face mask, safety glasses, and disposable gloves;
  • Low pressure backpack sprayers will be utilized for disinfecting large areas;
  • Abundant supplies of sanitizers and disinfectants will be available;
  • Microfiber cloths will be used to sanitize surfaces; and
  • Queue line supplies, fencing, and tents will be in place to promote safe social distancing.

Multi-Layered Guest and Team Member Communication

  • Frontline team members will go through extensive COVID-19 training;
  • Safety messaging and reminders on Six Flags’ website, newsletters, in-park announcements, and recorded phone messages will occur frequently;
  • Distance markers and physical distance indicators will be in place;
  • Informational safety signage is posted throughout the park; and
  • Handouts outlining guest screening processes and safety procedures will be distributed at the Toll Plaza.

Park Reservations System to Manage Attendance

Frontier City will be operating under state and local guidelines for crowd capacity limits. The park has established attendance caps that will be well below the park’s theoretical capacity in order to allow for proper social distancing. All Members, Season Pass holders and all guests with a single-day or group ticket will need to make a reservation at www.sixflags.com/reserve. The process will take 5-7 minutes, and guests will complete the following steps:

  • Enter their online order number, ticket number or Membership/Season Pass number;
  • Select the day and the approximate time they want to visit;
  • Watch a brief video describing new social distancing and sanitization procedures;
  • Acknowledge their understanding of the company’s health policy; and
  • Order pre-paid parking, if they do not already have a parking pass.

Guests will be contacted electronically (either by email, text or both) the day before their scheduled visit to confirm their intent to visit and their continued healthy status. Guests may cancel their reservation without penalty any time before 8:00 a.m. (local time) on the day of their scheduled visit. Diamond and Diamond Elite Members will automatically be added to the priority waitlist, and all Members and Season Pass Holders will receive booking priority over single-day and group ticket buyers.

The Six Flags brand is synonymous with family fun and thrills for all ages. These significant new changes are designed to improve the overall park experience while keeping guests and employees safe.

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Senator Joe Pennacchio, appalled and frustrated by the loss of life in New Jersey and New York, had a message for Governors Murphy and Cuomo. “You own this, governors. The death and illness, the lack of protective equipment, ineffective leadership and non-existent state intervention – it all rests at your feet,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “If you are going to point fingers, point at yourselves first.”

Pennacchio said it was obvious early on that senior facilities were at high-risk concerns for COVID-19 outbreaks. In late March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published details of the deadly coronavirus outbreak at a nursing home in the Seattle suburbs. The article, or March 27, stated the spread in the Washington facility produced a “very rapid spread, despite early adoption of infection prevention and control measures.”

The report was produced by the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, which NJ.com columnist Paul Mulshine referred to as “what you might call the bible of the public-health establishment – assuming the bible were to be updated every seven days based on the best research available.”

Less than 48 hours later, according to the column, “the Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Medicine, which certifies specialists in the field, put out a press release based on that MMWR article.” The March 29 release criticized New York State for ordering nursing home directors not to “deny re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19.”

“Based on what we currently know … this action by a state will put the many frail and older adults who reside in nursing homes at risk,” the press release stated.

That didn’t deter Murphy at all, and days later, on March 31, New Jersey would follow suite, issuing the same, dangerously flawed directive to facilities in this state.

“Top health experts were emphasizing that nursing homes were at the greatest risk, and should have been kept clear of virus contaminants.  Inexplicably, New Jersey followed New York’s lead and both states drove off the cliff,” Pennacchio said.

“The timeline is damning,” said the Senator. “We had all these warnings. The situation in Seattle was unfolding, and the virus was hitting the elderly population hard in Italy, where the average ago of death was 81. The Administration here overlooked all the red flags.”

The morbid predictions proved prophetic, and almost 12,000 nursing home deaths in two states have been attributed to confirmed or presumed COVID-19 infections.

“In New Jersey, 1 out of every 13 residents in nursing homes have died since the  outbreak. We have lost 6,000 vulnerable souls in New Jersey and almost as many have died in our neighbor to the north,” said Pennacchio.

Pennacchio has called for initiating a Senate Select Committee with subpoena power to investigate the Administration’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.

“The lingering question remains: Why were the CDC’s very specific warnings ignored? To prevent a tragedy of this level from repeating during another pandemic or a second wave of COVID, it is crucial to get the answer.”

TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Mayor Maurice Hill and the Toms River Council hired U.S. Assemblyman Gregory P. McGuckin to a $500,000 annual job as the chief legal counsel for the township.  On Tuesday, the council hosted their first public meeting since hiring McGuckin, but the consummate politician who holds approximately 25 to 30 public jobs was a no show.  McGuckin instead, was present at the Jackson Township municipal council where he also serves as chief legal counsel.  Both Toms River and Jackson Township hosts their bi-weekly public meeting on the same day of the week, at the same time.  When McGuckin was asked two weeks ago, how he could be in two places at the same time, he replied that his schedule is none of anyone’s business.

published report stating that as the coronavirus gained a foothold, the health commissioner was reluctant to send state inspectors into nursing homes because they didn’t have sufficiently protective masks prompted outrage from Senator Joe Pennacchio.

“There are no words to explain it, no way to justify it,” said Pennacchio (R-26). “The department essentially washed its hands of the problem, protecting its own experts at the expense of nursing home residents and workers who were left to their own devises to contend with the deadly outbreak. The laissez faire approach turned some facilities into ‘death homes’ for fragile senior citizens.”

The public learned there was something horribly wrong when an anonymous tip to police cited dead bodies piling up at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center in Andover, N.J.

Officers found 17 bodies, and The New York Times reported a post on the facility’s Facebook page, later deleted, said: “To all the people calling into the governor’s office, the congressman’s office to help us tell them WE NEED HELP.”

“People were desperate. Residents, family members, and staff, they all knew the situation was out of control,” said Pennacchio. “What they couldn’t know was inspectors who may have helped were not coming because nursing home environments were too dangerous. The message from the Administration to nursing homes was clear: ‘Fend for yourself. We are not putting the state’s workers at risk.’

“As we now know, the situation would spiral out of control across the state. This unexplainable policy from the Administration delivered a death sentence to 6,000 New Jersey residents,” said Pennacchio. “Worse, patients were left to die alone and scared in fear-filled isolation.

“In the past, this state has had a select committee to examine traffic jams on the George Washington Bridge, yet the voices of 6,000 dead souls are still going out to be heard,” Pennacchio concluded. “I am calling for the immediate formation and meeting of a Select Senate Committee with subpoena power to get answers and justice for the victims and their families.”

VINELAND, NJ – Not all Republicans in Trenton are working to stroke the undercarriage of Phil Murphy and tighten his grip on New Jersey, like Ocean County Assemblyman Gregory P. McGuckin. McGuckin, an Ocean County Republican with 30 public jobs, that’s right, 30…give or take a few, recently introduced a bill in the Assembly to fine the good people of New Jersey $15,000 for violating Murphy’s executive orders. That’s right, not every Republican is a fraud just padding his own pockets and enabling the governor, there are people out there like Senator Michael Testa who are rolling up their sleeves, getting ready for an all-out slugfest against Governor Murphy.

Senator Michael Doherty and Senator Michael Testa have introduced legislation to place limits on Governor Phil Murphy’s executive orders and those of future governors. “Last I checked, the State of New Jersey had three branches of government, not one,” said Doherty (R-23). “The governor’s preference to lead via executive order rather than through collaboration with elected legislators has proven to be dangerous and deadly. Our proposal to place limits on executive authority will ensure that the administration is transparent about the continued need for any executive orders that it believes should be extended.”

“Gov. Murphy’s strategy of governing primarily through executive order is alarming,” said Testa (R-1). “Over the past two months, New Jerseyans have watched with frustration and anger as executive power has been abused with little input from the public. The governor has said repeatedly during his briefings that the public’s concerns don’t impact his decision-making process. That’s outrageous. Since Governor Murphy does not seem to care about the economic harm his executive orders are inflicting on New Jersey families and small businesses, it’s imperative that the Legislature has the opportunity to protect New Jerseyans.”

Doherty and Testa’s legislation, S-2482, would prohibit the governor’s executive orders from exceeding fourteen days unless the legislature approves a longer period of time through a concurrent resolution.

Testa has come along way as a New Jersey senator during COVID-19. He started the pandemic baking bread, tossing pizza and sharing recipes, but now that the COVID-19 smoke has cleared the kitchen, he’s back to work, fighting against Phil Murphy, no disrespect meant to the first-year senator.

Now for the sad reality of this bill. Republicans in New Jersey couldn’t get a bill across Phil Murphy’s desk, even if it pledged even more funding for planned parenthood because they just don’t have the votes and Phil Murphy of course, would veto this bill if by chance it ever hit his desk. We have better chance of have a cure for COVID-19 long before this bill ever became law.

Testa with “Mr. New Jersey” Michael Shapiro at the Wildwood Trump rally earlier this year.
