BOSTON, MA — Federal immigration authorities have arrested an illegal migrant wanted in Ecuador on child rape charges. The arrest was made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in western Massachusetts last month, the agency announced on Tuesday.

The Ecuadorian national, who remains unidentified, entered the United States unlawfully in 2021. He is wanted in his home country for allegedly raping a child.

“This Ecuadorian fugitive is facing some very serious charges, but instead of facing the justice system, he fled and attempted to take refuge in Massachusetts,” said Todd Lyons, Director of the Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office, in a statement regarding the arrest.

The individual is now in custody as authorities continue to process his case and coordinate with Ecuadorian officials for his extradition.

Federal immigration authorities arrested an illegal migrant wanted in his home country on child rape charges and hiding out in the United States.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended a Ecuadorian national, who remains unidentified, in western Massachusetts last month, the agency announced on Tuesday. The individual entered the U.S. unlawfully in 2021 and is wanted in his home country for allegedly raping a child.

“This Ecuadorian fugitive is facing some very serious charges, but instead of facing the justice system, he fled and attempted to take refuge in Massachusetts,” Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons said in a statement about the arrest.

“He posed a significant threat to the children of our communities, and we cannot allow that to continue,” Lyons continued. “ERO Boston will continue to prioritize the safety of our public by apprehending and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from New England.”

Border Patrol agents arrested the Ecuadorian national on June 4, 2021 after he illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near San Luis, Arizona, according to the agency. Border Patrol released him into the country after issuing him a notice to appear before an immigration judge.

The Ecuadorian government issued an arrest warrant for the illegal migrant on May 16, 2023 after he was charged with rape of a minor and invasion of privacy, according to ICE. Deportation officers out of Boston arrested him on June 12 near his place of residence in Northampton, Massachusetts — less than a month after his arrest warrant was issued and listing him as a fugitive of justice.

This is far from the first time ICE agents have arrested an illegal immigrant seeking refuge in the U.S. while wanted for heinous crimes in their home country.

ICE agents apprehended 11 different illegal migrants last month in a nationwide sweep that spanned numerous major cities, the agency recently announced. Among those arrested were foreign nationals wanted for various human rights abuses, such as extrajudicial killings, rape, forced abortions and sterilizations, religious persecution and enforced disappearances.

Thousands of criminal aliens have reached the U.S.-Mexico border under the Biden administration as the immigration crisis rages on.

Border Patrol agents have so far encountered more than seven million illegal migrants since President Joe Biden entered office, according to the latest data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Among those encountered include more than 50,000 criminal foreign nationals.

Daily Caller News Foundation

Former President Donald Trump has widened his lead in several polls following President Joe Biden’s much maligned debate performance on Thursday, including in two surveys from The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times released on Wednesday.

Trump had been steadily leading in all six swing states and nationally over the last few months, according to RealClearPolling averages. But after Biden stumbled through the first presidential debate, Trump has managed to widen his lead in at least five polls, including his largest lead recorded in the New York Times Times/Siena poll since 2015.

Among registered voters, Trump has widened his lead to eight points with 49% preferring Trump and 41% preferring Biden, according to the New York Times/Siena poll. Across likely voters, Trump leads by six points, with Trump garnering 49% and Biden 43% support.

Trump has taken a six point lead over Biden nationally, polling at 48% compared to 42% for Biden, according to The Wall Street Journal poll.

“Joe Biden was defending a failed record that is not just his,” John McLaughlin, a Trump campaign pollster and CEO of McLaughlin & Associates, the Daily Caller News Foundation. “It applies to the entire Democratic Party and any other candidate that they’re talking about putting up on the ticket.”

Biden is trailing Trump by six points, which is a 0.8 point decrease from his pre-debate poll numbers, according to an internal Democrat poll from Open Labs that was leaked Tuesday. Trump also increased his lead by three points, polling at 41% while Biden trails at 38%, in a USA Today/Suffolk University poll released on Tuesday. Prior to the debate, Trump and Biden were tied at 37% in the poll.

Trump’s successful policies, whether it’s securing the border, keeping the world at peace, low inflation, having an economic recovery and optimism, [the Democrats] have trashed it, and the country knows,” McLaughlin told the DCNF. “Unless the Democrats decide before Chicago that they’re going to turn around all their failed policies, they will lose in November.”

“I think in the wake of last week’s debate performance, it’s entirely possible for states to shift,” Jon McHenry, GOP polling analyst and vice president at North Star Opinion Research, told the DCNF.

Biden’s numbers have also slipped in key states, according to the Open Labs poll. Biden’s previous lead in New Mexico and Virginia flipped in favor of Trump following the debate, while Trump continues to lead in states like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

“The swing states from last cycle like Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina have been shifting to former President Trump with consistent mid-to-high single-digit leads, and the old swing states like New Hampshire, Virginia, and New Mexico that have been consistently Democratic for the last several cycles may become more competitive,” McHenry told the DCNF.

Biden’s dismal post-debate polling was reflected in voters’ attitudes toward the president, according to the Open Labs poll. Based on what they have heard about Biden over the last week, an all-time low of 27% of voters say they think of him more favorably.

In the aftermath of the debate, voters are calling for Biden to drop out from the race. Nearly half of Democratic voters said they want to see Biden replaced as the nominee, according to a Morning Consult poll released on Friday; several pundits and publications have expressed similar sentiments.

“Unless the Democrat party decides to repudiate the radical failed policies they put in place, they’re going to lose,” McLaughlin told the DCNF. “All they’re doing is changing the captain on the Titanic.”

TRENTON, NJ — The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has reported that inflationary pressures are expected to make this year’s Fourth of July celebrations more costly for Americans.

Throughout President Joe Biden’s first term, inflation has consistently affected everyday Americans, with the consumer price index (CPI) increasing by approximately 20% since 2021. According to AFBF’s late June analysis, nearly all goods essential to Independence Day cookouts have been affected by these price hikes.

“It’s not surprising that this has happened,” stated OH Skinner, executive director of the Alliance for Consumers, to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “The end result is that it’s harder and harder for families to gather. And for too many who are just trying to make ends meet, it might no longer be possible to celebrate one of our great cultural moments in the way they did while growing up.”

As Americans prepare for the holiday, the increased costs of traditional food items may alter the way many celebrate this year.

DCNF Reports:

The inflationary pressures pinching Americans will be make this year’s Fourth of July celebrations costlier than they may be accustomed to, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF).

Inflation has been a consistent problem plaguing everyday Americans throughout President Joe Biden’s first term, with the consumer price index (CPI) increasing by roughly 20% since 2021. Unfortunately, nearly all of the goods that are staples of the quintessential Independence Day cookout have not been spared, according to AFBF’s analysis, released in late June.

“It’s not surprising that this has happened,” OH Skinner, executive director of the Alliance for Consumers, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “The end result is that it’s harder and harder for families to gather. And for too many who are just trying to make ends meet, it might no longer be possible to celebrate one of our great cultural moments in the way they did while growing up.”

On average, two pounds of ground beef now sets consumers back about $12.77, reflecting an 11% increase relative to 2023’s prices, while hamburger buns now typically cost 7% more than they did last year, according to AFBF. Meanwhile, a 2.5 quart bottle of lemonade now costs about $4.19, a 12% jump from last year.

A three pound helping of pork chops, another American favorite to put on the grill, now runs consumers nearly $15.50, an 8% increase from 2023, according to AFBF. The typical 16 ounce bag of potato chips has increased by 8% to $4.90.

It’s not all bad news for barbecue enjoyers, as the average cost of two pounds of chicken breast has dropped by 4% relative to last year, and potato salad — a popular summer side item — has also dropped in price by about 4%, according to AFBF.

However, some sweet treats have had prices jump, souring some of the improvements in the prices of more savory items like chicken and potato salad. For example, the price of the average 13 ounce pack of chocolate chip cookies is up by about 2%, while a half-gallon tub of ice cream has increased by about 7% relative to last year, according to AFBF.

For Americans who plan to drive elsewhere to celebrate the long weekend, the national average price for a gallon of gas at the pump is currently hovering at around $3.51, according to AAA data. While that price is a far cry from the $4.80 per gallon Americans had to pony up around this time in 2022, it is still approximately $1 per gallon more than what Americans paid at the pump in January 2020, the last full month before the pandemic began to cause significant economic and political disruptions.

For those who enjoy washing down their burgers and hot dogs — which have increased in price by about 7% — with some beer, the average cost of ice cold pilsners has increased by about 3%, according to Quartz.

White House Continues Funding Pandemic Response Staff Despite End of Public Health Emergency

TRENTON, NJ — It’s not sure how many pandemic-era employees such as contact tracers are still working in New Jersey’s government, but at the federal level, that number is high.

The Biden administration is allocating significant funds to support the salaries of several “Pandemic Response” employees, according to White House payroll records.

The records reveal that the White House is paying six staffers under the “Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response,” costing taxpayers a total of $667,000 annually. The salaries of these staff members range from $56,500 to $139,500 per year, according to a 2024 payroll report released by the Executive Office of the President.

This expenditure continues despite President Joe Biden’s declaration that the pandemic was “over” during a September 2022 interview on 60 Minutes and the official expiration of the federal public health emergency on May 11, 2023, as confirmed by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The funding of these positions highlights ongoing efforts by the administration to maintain preparedness and response capabilities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Biden administration is spending over thousands of dollars to fund the salaries of several “Pandemic Response” employees, according to White House payroll records.

The White House pays six staffers with job titles that fall under the “Office Of Pandemic Preparedness and Response,” costing taxpayers $667,000, according to a 2024 payroll report released Monday from the Executive Office of the President. The staff members reportedly make between $56,500 to $139,500 a year.

Biden said the pandemic was “over” during a September 2022 interview on 60 Minutes, and the federal public health emergency officially expired on May 11, 2023, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy was created in July 2023 to take up COVID-19 related tasks and plan for possible future pandemics, according to the White House. The office is led by retired Air Force general Paul Friedrichs, according to Reuters.

Biden signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan (ARP) into law in 2021, authorizing massive stimulus spending to revive the sluggish COVID economy. The administration’s high spending, including the ARP, has contributed to heightened inflation, economists say.

Donald Trump’s administration had proposed spending between $530 billion and $870 billion in COVID relief, while Biden administration estimates are between $2 trillion and $4.2 trillion, according to a 2020 analysis by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. As of January 2023, $90.5 billion of the $4.6 trillion allocated for COVID was unspent, while $23.7 billion expired, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The Biden administration employs 565 staffers as of this year, and has spent $225 million since fiscal year 2021 on the highest payroll on record since former President Richard Nixon in 1971, according to Open The Books, who first reported the payroll numbers.

The White House did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — On July 5, detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Manchester Township Police Department, and United States Marshals Service located Maxwell Johnston, 35, of Manchester Township, at a residence on Ravenwood Drive in Toms River. Johnston was wanted for the murder of Gabriella Caroleo, 25, of Seaside Heights, which occurred on June 27.

Upon arrival, negotiators attempted to persuade Johnston to surrender peacefully, but he refused. After several hours, a female occupant, Mascarelli, exited the residence and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for injuries sustained during the standoff. Johnston was later found deceased in a bedroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A photo posted by Mascarelli from within side the Toms River home during a police standoff where she harbored a fugitive murder suspect.

Further investigation revealed that Mascarelli had allowed Johnston to stay at her residence for four days despite knowing of his involvement in Caroleo’s murder. Mascarelli was charged with Hindering a Fugitive from Justice and will be transferred to the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Sources within law enforcement today have confirmed that Maxwell Johnston, the fugitive murder suspect who killed himself after a tense standoff with police officers in Toms River, was with another woman inside a Toms River home before police entered the house.

According to the reliable source, the woman was a girlfriend of Johnston, and the pair reportedly published their final intimate moments together on Instagram before his self-inflicted demise. The woman, who was later seen being taken away by ambulance, was reportedly injured after a police teargas canister struck her in the head.

The pair engaged in a sexual act before his death, the source confirmed tonight. The video and photos were posted to Instagram under the account Glizzygrimm. That account belongs to Elizabeth Mascarelli, who has a police record that includes the possession, manufacturing, and distribution of drugs.

In one photo published on her Instagram page, the two are seen have relations. A bullet hole was clearly visible in the shattered mirror in the Ravenwood Court bedroom. Maxwell was holding a gun, presumably the one he killed himself and Gabriella Caroleo with. Both topless, Mascarelli is seen licking the gun in one photo.

In another photo, Maxwell is seen making a ‘finger gun’ motion to his head, indicating that he was going to kill himself. Mascarelli was smiling in the photo.

Johnston reportedly fired multiple shots at police and U.S. Marshals Service agents before police entered the home to find him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials believe Mascarelli knew Johnston was a fugitive wanted for the murder of a 25-year-old mother from Seaside Heights, Gabriella M. Caroleo. Caroleo was found shot dead near the intersection of Route 571 and Route 547 in Manchester Thursday evening shortly before 5:00 pm on June 27th. Mascarelli was also from Seaside Heights.

It is not known whether or not Mascarelli will be charged for her role in today’s standoff. She has an extensive criminal arrest record.

Toms River officials have refused to comment on this report, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to release a press release shortly.

Pittsburgh, PA – Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced today that April Wright, a 37-year-old woman from Swissvale, is facing multiple charges for attempting to pass suspected drug-soaked paperwork to an inmate at the office of Magisterial District Judge Anthony DeLuca.

On July 1, 2024, surveillance footage captured Wright entering Judge DeLuca’s office, passing through a metal detector, and proceeding to the restroom. She remained in the restroom for a few minutes before exiting the building but staying on the premises.

Approximately five minutes later, Pennsylvania State Constables escorted Ryan Den-Zel Perry, Wright’s boyfriend, into the office and towards the restroom. Before allowing Perry to enter, Constable Lou Leon performed a routine safety sweep and noticed a missing ceiling tile. Upon investigation, he discovered an envelope containing four blank pieces of paper hidden in the ceiling.

Penn Hills Police were notified and interviewed Wright, who admitted to receiving the envelope from an unknown male on June 30 and placing it in the ceiling of the magistrate’s office the following day.

The blank paperwork has been submitted to the Allegheny County Crime Lab, which confirmed that the papers showed indicia of being altered with synthetic cannabinoids.

The trooper confronted Hetzler as he exited the store with stolen goods totaling over $300 and took him into custody without incident.

A computer inquiry revealed Hetzler had an active No Contact Order with Wegmans issued by the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, and warrants for his arrest for similar shopliftings that occurred on March 19, 2024, and June 26, 2024, at the same Wegmans location. In each incident, Hetzler filled a shopping cart with various grocery items and left without paying.

Hetzler was taken to Troop 1, where he was charged with multiple crimes, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on a $5,250 unsecured bond.

The Shinobi franchise, a beloved series in the world of video gaming, has captivated players with its blend of action, stealth, and ninja lore since its inception. Created by SEGA, the series has evolved over the decades, leaving an indelible mark on the gaming industry. Here, we take a look back at the storied history of this iconic franchise.

The Birth of a Ninja Legend

The Shinobi series debuted in 1987 with the release of its first arcade game. Developed by SEGA, the original Shinobi introduced players to Joe Musashi, a master ninja on a mission to rescue kidnapped children from the nefarious Zeed crime syndicate. The game’s side-scrolling action, coupled with its challenging gameplay and distinctive shuriken-throwing mechanics, quickly made it a hit in arcades worldwide.

Expanding the Legacy

Building on the success of the arcade version, SEGA released The Revenge of Shinobi for the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) in 1989. This sequel brought significant enhancements, including improved graphics, a compelling storyline, and a memorable soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro. The Revenge of Shinobi expanded Joe Musashi’s quest for justice, pitting him against a variety of formidable foes and intricate levels.

The early ’90s saw the release of several other Shinobi titles, including Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, which is often hailed as one of the best entries in the series. Released in 1993, the game featured refined controls, fluid animations, and a greater emphasis on fast-paced combat and acrobatics, solidifying the franchise’s reputation for excellence.

Transition to 3D

As the gaming industry transitioned to 3D graphics, so did the Shinobi series. In 2002, SEGA released Shinobi for the PlayStation 2, a reimagining of the classic franchise. This iteration introduced a new protagonist, Hotsuma, and incorporated a dynamic 3D combat system. While the game received mixed reviews for its difficulty, it was praised for its stylish presentation and adherence to the core elements that made Shinobi popular.

Following this, Nightshade (known as Kunoichi in Japan) was released in 2003 as a direct sequel to the 2002 Shinobi. Featuring a female protagonist, Hibana, the game offered similar gameplay mechanics but with additional features and improved visuals.

Modern Revivals and Legacy

The Shinobi franchise experienced a resurgence in the 2010s with the release of Shinobi for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011. Developed by Griptonite Games, this installment aimed to bring back the series’ classic 2D gameplay while incorporating modern elements. It served as both a nostalgic return and a fresh experience for new players.

In recent years, the Shinobi series has continued to enjoy a dedicated fanbase, with many hoping for a new mainline entry. The franchise’s influence can be seen in various other games that draw inspiration from its mechanics and style. SEGA’s consistent celebration of Shinobi through re-releases and compilations has kept the legacy of Joe Musashi and his successors alive.

Cultural Impact

Beyond its gameplay, the Shinobi series has left a lasting cultural impact. The character of Joe Musashi has become an iconic figure in gaming, representing the archetype of the ninja hero. The franchise’s music, particularly the compositions of Yuzo Koshiro, remains highly regarded and often performed in video game concerts.

The enduring appeal of the Shinobi series lies in its successful blend of challenging gameplay, engaging storylines, and atmospheric presentation. It has inspired countless players and developers, cementing its place in the pantheon of classic video game franchises.

As the gaming world continues to evolve, the legacy of Shinobi stands as a testament to the enduring power of a well-crafted action-adventure series. Fans old and new await the next chapter in the saga, hopeful that the spirit of the ninja will once again rise in the world of gaming.
