SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – A Bay Shore man was sentenced Wednesday to 23 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing his young daughter over the course of a year, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced.
A Suffolk County jury found the 33-year-old defendant guilty in October of multiple charges, including Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, Incest in the First Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
District attorney calls sentence a measure of justice
“Today, justice has been served, not only for the victim, but for all children in our community who deserve to feel safe,” Tierney said in a statement. “Our priority will always be to protect our most vulnerable and ensure that those who commit such acts face the consequences of their actions.”
According to trial evidence, the abuse occurred between October 2021 and November 2022 while the victim lived with each parent on alternating weeks. The case came to light when the child disclosed the abuse to her mother, who immediately reported it to police. The defendant was arrested on November 8, 2022.
Conviction and sentencing
Following his conviction on October 10 before Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, the defendant was remanded to jail. On November 26, he was sentenced to 23 years in state prison, followed by 20 years of post-release supervision.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Johanna Poremba and Dana Castaldo of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau, with investigative support from Detective Christopher Albanese of the Suffolk County Police Department Special Victims Section. Crime Victim Advocate Sorene Ryan also assisted.
A Bay Shore man will serve more than two decades in prison after being found guilty of abusing his child in Suffolk County.
