Brandywine, Maryland — A Prince George’s County military veteran won a combined $75,000 in a single Maryland Lottery Pick 5 drawing after placing two bets on the same number combination, officials announced April 13.
The Brandywine-area player hit the April 9 evening drawing number, 10110, securing both a $50,000 top prize from a $1 bet and an additional $25,000 prize from a separate 50-cent wager, according to the Maryland Lottery.
One number, two payouts in the same drawing
The winner, who regularly plays Maryland Lottery Pick games, had purchased tickets in advance for multiple drawings scheduled between April 6 and April 11.
A few days later, while sitting in his car, he began checking his tickets against the winning numbers on his phone. That’s when he recognized the combination 10110.
“I saw that Pick 5 number and I knew I was a winner,” he told lottery officials.
His strategy, he said, traces back to his mother, who introduced him to a routine of consistently playing certain numbers each week.

The $50,000-winning ticket was purchased at Dyson’s Store, located at 13706 Brandywine Road in Brandywine. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.

The week of April 9 proved particularly lucrative for Maryland Lottery players. In addition to multiple $50,000 wins, officials reported 25 separate $25,000 prizes during the week ending April 12.
