Brooklyn man arrested in bronx rape after nypd online plea for help

BROOKLYN, NY – A Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with a violent rape in the Bronx after police issued a citywide call for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

Suspect taken into custody

Zion Exum, 26, of 954 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, was taken into custody and charged with rape following the attack that occurred earlier this month, according to the New York City Police Department.

Investigators said the incident unfolded on Saturday, September 13, at around 4:05 a.m., when a 25-year-old woman was walking near East 212th Street and Paulding Avenue in the 47th Precinct.

Brutal attack in the Bronx

The woman was approached by a man who struck up a conversation before wrapping his arm around her and dragging her to the ground, police said. He then forcibly raped her before fleeing southbound toward Paulding Avenue.

The victim was transported to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

Public appeal led to identification

Following the assault, police released images of the suspect and asked for the public’s assistance in identifying him. That appeal led to Exum being named and arrested.

Authorities said Exum remains in custody pending his court appearance.
