South Carolina lawmakers move to protect a historic Marine training base amid past closure concerns tied to federal requirements.
Washington, DC – A new bill introduced by a South Carolina congresswoman is receiving praise from millions of Americans, including tens of thousands here in New Jersey. Parris Island is where recruits from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and the entire East Coast go to begin their transformation from civilians to being members of one of the world’s most elite fighting forces, the United States Marine Corps.
Parris Island is where Marines are made for the eastern half of the United States, and once again, America is fighting off attempts to continue gutting the Marine Corps by far-left politicians and woke generals left over from the Biden and Obama administrations.
Those generals and politicians wanted to shut the base down because it included gender-segregated training and didn’t subscribe to America’s new woke ideology. Under President Trump, some of those traditions and the history are being restored, but Congress is trying to ensure that future administrations don’t inject woke warrior training at America’s most prestigious military boot camp facilities.
U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace has introduced legislation aimed at preventing the closure or realignment of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, a facility that has trained Marines for more than a century.
The proposed “Parris Island Protection Act” would prohibit the use of federal funds to shut down or relocate operations at the Beaufort County base. The move comes as lawmakers renew concerns over past discussions within the Marine Corps about potentially closing the depot.
“Since 1915, Parris Island has been making Marines,” Mace said in a public statement. “We introduced the Parris Island Protection Act to ensure that no federal dollars are ever used to close or realign Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.”
Lawmakers cite history, economic impact
Parris Island has long served as a primary training site for Marine recruits, particularly those east of the Mississippi River. Lawmakers argue the base holds both historic and economic significance for South Carolina and the broader military community.
“Parris Island does not just belong to South Carolina. It belongs in the soul of the American military, training generations of Marines to come,” Mace said. “And we will defend it with everything we have.”
