Third suspect arrested in 2024 Dunbar Road homicide case involving decomposed remains

Washington, DC – A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old whose decomposed body was found in Southeast DC nearly a year ago, the Metropolitan Police Department announced Tuesday.

On the morning of November 8, 2024, officers from the Seventh District responded to a report of human remains discovered in the 2600 block of Dunbar Road SE. Upon arrival, police found male remains in an advanced state of decomposition. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later ruled the death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was identified as Alexander Ariel Pavon-Rios, 18, of Northwest DC.

The investigation has now led to three arrests. On March 16, 2025, 25-year-old Miguel Antonio Hernandez-Orantes of Northeast DC was taken into custody and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated). Two days later, on March 18, police arrested 29-year-old Antonio Benahias Morales of Capitol Heights, Maryland, on the same charge.

The latest arrest occurred Tuesday, when 21-year-old Angel Manfredi Campos-Melendez of Morningside, Maryland, was apprehended pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant. He is also charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated).

The case remains under active investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
