GREENSBURG, PA – The Rostraver Police Department, in cooperation with the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, announced the filing of criminal charges following a shooting incident involving a 4-year-old child.

On July 6, police and county detectives responded to a call at Gaudio Drive in Rostraver Township, where a child had accidentally shot himself.

The child was airlifted to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for emergency surgery and continues to receive medical care. Laura Steele and Michael Lynn face charges of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

The investigation revealed that the handgun involved was unsecured and loaded on the floor of a bedroom in the home.

District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli emphasized the importance of secure firearm storage and announced a partnership with Ray of Hope for providing free gun locks to the community.
