DELMAR, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Georgetown man Wednesday evening after his pickup truck left the roadway and struck a tree.

The crash occurred around 5:12 p.m. on November 13 as a GMC Sierra traveled northbound on Sussex Highway near West Snake Road.

Police said the vehicle crossed the median into the southbound lanes before running off the west side of the highway and colliding with a tree.

Victim pronounced dead at the scene

The driver, a 30-year-old man whose name has not yet been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Investigation continues into cause of crash

Authorities are still determining what caused the pickup to leave the roadway. Sussex Highway was closed for approximately four hours as troopers investigated and cleared the scene.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact Delaware State Police Troop 7.
