Man accused of shooting passenger during argument then dumping body in Maryland yard

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — A Maryland man is accused of shooting and killing a passenger during an argument before dumping the body in a yard and fleeing the scene, authorities said.

Investigators said the incident unfolded around 10:25 p.m. on March 22 near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road, where two witnesses flagged down police.

According to detectives, the witnesses were sitting in the back seat of a car when the driver, identified as Dayton James Webber, 27, allegedly shot the front seat passenger during a dispute.

Police said Webber pulled over and asked the witnesses to help remove the victim from the vehicle, but they refused and left the scene.

Authorities said Webber then drove away with the victim still inside the car.

Nearly two hours later, a resident in the 10000 block of Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall called 911 after discovering a body in a yard. Officers responded and found the victim, identified as Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Webber’s arrest and later tracked his vehicle to Charlottesville, Virginia.

Police said Webber was located at a nearby hospital seeking treatment and was taken into custody by Albemarle County Police once he was released.

He is currently being held as a fugitive and is awaiting extradition to Charles County, where he will face charges including first-degree murder and second-degree murder.
