Escaped Prisoner on the Run in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is searching for an escaped prisoner who fled from officers early Sunday morning.

The escape occurred at around 12:31 a.m. when officers transported the prisoner to a local hospital for treatment. Once there, the suspect, 27-year-old Derrick Ross-Simms, escaped custody and fled on foot. He was last seen in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast.

Ross-Simms, a resident of Southeast D.C., had been arrested on charges of Carrying a Pistol Without a License and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Authorities have now issued an additional warrant for his arrest on charges of Escape.

The MPD has urged anyone with information about Ross-Simms’ whereabouts to contact the department at (202) 727-9099. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in violent crime cases in Washington, D.C.
