Sacramento, Calif. – The man accused of opening fire on the ABC affiliate in Sacramento following the suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has been identified as 64-year-old Anibal Hernandez-Santana, a former legislative director for the California Federation of Teachers.

Hernandez-Santana was arrested on multiple felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm, and shooting into an occupied building, according to officials. No injuries were reported in the attack.

An X account appearing to belong to Hernandez-Santana, reviewed by Variety, contained numerous political posts criticizing former President Donald Trump and federal agencies. In one message posted in July, the account railed against what it called an “authoritarian oligarchy,” listing media companies, federal law enforcement, and the Supreme Court while declaring that Americans would “have to ‘fight like hell.’”

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, though the incident followed national headlines about Kimmel’s suspension. Investigators are working to determine whether Hernandez-Santana’s political activity online is connected to the attack.

Hernandez-Santana is being held in custody pending his arraignment.
