Foul odor leads to police to dead body wrapped in sheet in trunk of stolen car in North Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – A grim discovery was made Tuesday night when officers found a body wrapped in a sheet inside the trunk of a stolen Dodge Charger in North Philadelphia, authorities said.

Around 9:12 p.m., 22nd District officers were called to the 2000 block of North Bambrey Street to investigate a suspicious vehicle that had been left unattended. Police confirmed the Dodge Charger was reported stolen and immediately noticed a strong odor of decomposition coming from the trunk.

The trunk remained closed and secured as medics were called to the scene. At 9:49 p.m., the victim inside the vehicle was pronounced dead. Police said the body was wrapped in a sheet, and the person’s identity has not yet been determined.

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation. The Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit is leading the case.
