Fugitive alien wanted for murder in Dominican Republic arrested in Lawrence by federal agents

LAWRENCE, MASS. — A Dominican national wanted for homicide in his home country was arrested Wednesday in Lawrence by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a coordinated operation with the FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration, federal authorities announced.

Key Points

  • ICE, FBI, and DEA arrested a Dominican fugitive wanted for homicide on April 3
  • The suspect entered the U.S. illegally and was living in Lawrence, Mass.
  • He faces extradition to the Dominican Republic, where he faces up to 30 years in prison

ICE’s Boston office said the fugitive, whose name has not been released, was unlawfully present in the United States after entering without inspection, admission or parole by immigration authorities. His presence in the country was unknown until recent joint investigations revealed his identity and fugitive status.

Dominican authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on April 30, 2018, in connection with a homicide charge. The crime carries a potential sentence of up to 30 years under Dominican law.

“This Dominican fugitive hoped to escape the law in his native country by hiding out in Massachusetts,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We will now return him to the Dominican Republic to face the justice system there.”

The arrest was made in a coordinated effort between ICE’s Boston field office, FBI Boston, and DEA New England. No further details regarding the suspect’s alleged crime in the Dominican Republic or his activities in the U.S. have been disclosed.

Federal authorities said the individual will be held pending removal proceedings to return him to the Dominican Republic to face charges.
