Teen suspect arrested months after armed robbery at Refugee Road business cops say
COLUMBUS, OH — A teenager accused of pointing a gun at a cashier and demanding money during a late-night Refugee Road robbery has been arrested after investigators tied the case to a string of similar holdups, police said.
The Columbus Division of Police said the robbery happened around 1:22 a.m. on October 18, when officers were sent to a business in the 3200 block of Refugee Road. Workers told responding officers that the suspect had been lingering inside the store, coming in and out multiple times before approaching the register.
Police said the suspect then pointed a firearm at the cashier and demanded cash from the register before fleeing on foot. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect that night.
Investigators later collected evidence that identified a 15-year-old juvenile as the suspect in the Refugee Road robbery and “several other” aggravated robberies in the area, according to police. Aggravated robbery warrants were filed, and the juvenile was arrested without incident on Tuesday, January 14.
Police did not release the juvenile’s name, as is typical in juvenile cases, and did not provide details on where the arrest occurred or whether a weapon was recovered. The status of the other aggravated robbery cases referenced by police was not provided.
