Hospital worker stabbed in Columbus kitchen as suspect flees into woods

Columbus, OH – A workplace confrontation inside Mount Carmel East Hospital erupted into violence Tuesday morning when an employee was stabbed multiple times in a kitchen area before the suspect fled into nearby woods, police said.

Officers were called to the hospital at approximately 8:45 a.m. Tuesday after reports of a stabbing between co-workers. Responding officers found the victim suffering from several lacerations in the hospital’s kitchen. The victim was rushed to the emergency room in critical condition and later stabilized.

Investigators identified the suspect as Makaela Wilson, who ran from the building with a knife in her hand. Surveillance video captured Wilson fleeing the hospital and attempting to hide the weapon under her shirt.

Police located Wilson in a wooded area near the hospital following a brief foot chase. Officers recovered a large knife at the scene. Wilson sustained minor self-inflicted injuries and was treated while in custody.

She has been charged with felonious assault, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
