BETHESDA, MD — Montgomery County Police responded to a bomb threat at Walt Whitman High School on the morning of June 7, 2024, at approximately 10:45 a.m. The school, located in the 7100 block of Whittier Boulevard, was promptly evacuated following the threat.

After an investigation led by the Montgomery County Department of Police Behavioral Assessment and Administrative Unit, the threat was determined to be unfounded, and it was confirmed that there was no ongoing danger to the school community.

A 15-year-old student from Montgomery County Public Schools has been identified as the suspect behind the threat. The student has been charged with threats of mass violence and disrupting school operations. Due to the individual’s juvenile status, their identity has not been disclosed.

The case is now being handled by the Department of Juvenile Services to determine the appropriate next steps.
