Juvenile nabbed for reckless i-95 chase in stafford

STAFFORD, VA — A 16-year-old is in custody after leading a Virginia State Police First Sergeant on a high-speed chase along I-95 before being apprehended in Stafford County, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6:55 p.m. on July 23, when First Sergeant M.L. Jacobeen clocked a Toyota traveling 86 mph in a 65 mph zone near mile marker 142. After initially slowing down on the 143A exit ramp, the driver suddenly swerved back onto the interstate, nearly colliding with another vehicle, police said.

The juvenile then accelerated, passing vehicles on the shoulder at high speeds. Due to the extreme recklessness and risk to public safety, Jacobeen ended the pursuit. Investigators later determined the vehicle was taken without permission from a family member.

The 16-year-old was located upon returning to Stafford and was taken into custody. Criminal complaints include felony eluding, two counts of reckless driving, three counts of passing on the shoulder, driving without a license, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. The juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
