KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury after authorities say he was found with two firearms and large quantities of illegal drugs following a shooting incident in early May.
Darell Farmer, 30, faces federal charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.
The indictment stems from a May 5 arrest in Kansas City, where police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon approaching Farmer’s vehicle, officers observed a handgun in plain view. A search of the car led to the discovery of another firearm in the trunk along with substantial amounts of controlled substances, according to prosecutors.
Farmer is accused of possessing the firearms while actively distributing multiple drugs, in violation of federal law. He is barred from owning or possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James Kirkpatrick and investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Midwest Fugitive Task Force.
“This case is part of Operation Take Back America,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The initiative combines efforts from the Department of Justice to target violent crime and drug trafficking through interagency coordination and enforcement.
Farmer remains in custody pending trial.
