Lakewood man charged with setting three fires, including house blaze

LAKEWOOD, NJ – A Lakewood man has been charged with aggravated arson and two counts of arson after investigators linked him to three separate fires reported late Saturday night, authorities announced.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said 39-year-old Israel Salgado-Miron was arrested Sunday and charged in connection with a structure fire and two brush fires that occurred in Lakewood Township on November 29.

Emergency crews responded around 10:30 p.m. to a fire at a home on East Eighth Street, where flames were found burning in the basement window well.

Moments later, firefighters discovered two additional brush fires along nearby railroad tracks.

Investigators say fires were deliberately set

Firefighters were able to extinguish all three fires before they spread. An investigation determined that each blaze had been intentionally set using open flames and combustible materials.

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit–Arson Squad, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Lakewood Township Police Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office led the joint probe.

Through their investigation, authorities identified Salgado-Miron as the person responsible for setting all three fires.

He was taken into custody and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains pending a detention hearing.
