Major cocaine bust breaks up interstate drug operation

TRENTON, NJ — A lengthy two-month investigation into cocaine distribution in Trenton by the Mercer County Narcotics Task Force, in collaboration with several law enforcement agencies, resulted in two arrests and the seizure of cocaine valued at $70,000. Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported the culmination of the investigation this week.

On Monday, at approximately 4:00 PM, Dayron Vaughn, 48, from Bristol, Pennsylvania, was apprehended in the 400 block of West Hanover Street in Trenton. During a motor vehicle stop, Vaughn was found in possession of about 10 grams of powder cocaine. Concurrently, a search warrant was executed at a related residence in the 1300 block of Edgewood Avenue. A substantial amount of powder cocaine and drug paraphernalia was discovered in a black safe and the basement of the property, where Barry Coles, 56, was detained.

Both Vaughn and Coles face multiple first-degree narcotics charges, including operating a drug manufacturing facility. They have been held at the Mercer County Correction Center, with motions pending to detain both men until their trial. The operation, which involved assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, and police from Ewing, Hamilton, and Trenton, recovered a total of 700 grams of cocaine from the Edgewood Avenue location.
