St. Louis, MO – A 37-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his grandmother in her home and attacking her dogs. Ronald Allred III faces charges including first-degree murder and animal abuse in connection with the incident.
Allred was arraigned in court on Tuesday. Police responded to a 911 call from a woman who found her 81-year-old mother, Fannie Allred, unresponsive and on the floor in a pool of blood.
Emergency responders discovered multiple stab wounds on the victim’s body. Two dogs at the scene were also stabbed but are expected to recover.
Allred had reportedly spent the night at his grandmother’s residence and was seen earlier that day. Police learned of his presence at the home but he was not there when officers arrived.
An alert was issued to locate Allred and his pickup truck. He was spotted at a cemetery nearby, and when police approached him, he fled the scene after the officer fired a shot that missed him.
Later in the day, Allred barricaded himself in his truck at a local gas station, leading to a standoff with law enforcement. He was taken into custody and faces additional charges for resisting arrest.
According to reports, Allred confessed to the stabbing after being read his rights. The motive for the attack has not been disclosed.
Fannie Allred is remembered by relatives as a matriarch and a community member who recently overcame stage 2 colon cancer. Her family described her as a kind and caring individual who touched many lives in her neighborhood.
