Jersey City, NJ – Authorities are investigating a fatal stabbing that left one man dead Friday afternoon near the intersection of Jersey Avenue, 1st Street, and Maxwell Street.

Police were called to the area shortly after 12:20 p.m. for reports of a stabbing and found a man suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen.

The victim was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.

Investigators working to identify victim

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are leading the investigation. Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said the cause and manner of death, along with the victim’s identity, are pending confirmation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Person of interest in custody

During the early stages of the investigation, detectives identified a person of interest who is currently in custody. Authorities have not yet released further details about the individual or any potential motive in the case.
