UTICA, N.Y. — A man is expected to face charges after an altercation at the Michael Walsh Apartments on Grey Avenue led to a stabbing, according to Utica police.
Officers and fire personnel responded to the complex around 2:30 p.m. Saturday and found a male victim with a stab wound to the chest and a female victim with severe facial injuries. Both were transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment.
Investigators determined that the two individuals knew each other and had been arguing in a stairway when the man requested sexual favors. When the woman refused, the argument escalated, and the man repeatedly punched her in the face. Fearing for her safety, the woman retrieved a knife from her purse and stabbed him before attempting to flee. The man then chased and continued assaulting her until bystanders intervened.
Police concluded that the woman acted in self-defense, and charges will be filed against the man upon his release from the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity but said additional updates will follow once charges are formally filed.
