Bel Air woman finds forgotten Powerball ticket worth $50K in old stack
BEL AIR, MD – A Harford County mother got a shock last week when she sifted through a pile of old Powerball tickets from December and discovered one was worth $50,000.
The ticket matched four of the five white balls plus the red Powerball in the December 10 drawing — just one number shy of the $930 million jackpot. The winning numbers that night were 10, 16, 29, 33, 69, and Powerball 22. The woman had the first four numbers and the Powerball, but missed the fifth number, selecting 61 instead of 69.
The Bel Air resident claimed her prize on January 21 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, saying she checked the tickets only recently and was stunned by the result. Her ticket was one of the game’s third-tier winners, earning a $50,000 prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at Klein’s Shoprite, located at 223 North Main Street in Bel Air.
At the time of the December 10 drawing, the Powerball jackpot was climbing toward $1.82 billion before eventually being won by a player in Arkansas on Christmas Eve.
A regular player, the woman typically buys one ticket for each of the three weekly Powerball drawings when the jackpot hits high levels. She plans to use the winnings to pay off bills and is considering buying a new vehicle.
