ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland State Police are alerting residents of Anne Arundel County to a sophisticated telephone scam operation. Scammers have manipulated technology to clone or “spoof” the Maryland State Police telephone number, attempting to deceive victims into surrendering their banking details under false pretenses.

The fraudulent calls are reportedly originating from (410) 761-5130, a number officially belonging to the Maryland State Police Glen Burnie Barrack. This tactic aims to lend credibility to the scammer’s demands by masquerading as a legitimate law enforcement inquiry.

Victims are urged to exercise caution and skepticism with any call requesting personal financial information, especially those claiming to be from law enforcement agencies. The Maryland State Police emphasize that they would never solicit banking details or personal financial information over the phone.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call from this number or similar attempts is encouraged to hang up immediately and report the incident to the Maryland State Police.
