Mountville Woman Admits Guilt in Manslaughter of Ex-husband

MOUNTVILLE, PA – Cherelle Byrd, a 36-year-old Mountville resident, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a first-degree felony count of voluntary manslaughter.

Byrd admitted to fatally shooting Richard Williams, her ex-husband, on April 16, 2021, during a dispute over finances in a West Hempfield Township residence.

Judge Merrill Spahn has ordered a presentence investigation following the open guilty plea. Byrd is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Assistant District Attorney Janie Swinehart is prosecuting the case.
