NEW HAVEN, CT – Thursday, December 3, around 4:30 AM, a 58-year-old man called 911 to report he was injured with two broken legs in a bank parking lot at 391 Foxon Boulevard (Route 80). The East Haven man reported he was the victim of a carjacking.

New Haven Police and Fire responded to the former site of a Wells Fargo Bank branch. The business has moved but there remain two working automated teller machines (ATMs).

Arriving officers found the victim lying on the ground in the parking lot. The man sustained serious injuries to his legs. An ambulance transported the victim with non-life-threatening injuries to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Prior to the incident, investigators believe the victim was operating a gray 2013 GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle (SUV). He parked and left the keys in the SUV with the engine idling as he went to the ATM.

As the victim stood at the ATM, a man entered the SUV. As the thief began to drive away, the victim ran and jumped on the driver side of the SUV. As the SUV left the parking lot, the victim was thrown to the ground.

It is unknown at this time if the victim’s leg injuries were the result of being dragged or run over.

The stolen vehicle was last seen traveling on Foxon Boulevard toward Middletown Avenue. The SUV was bearing Connecticut license plate AK20696.

Anyone who comes across the vehicle is asked to call 911 or the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6316. Callers may remain anonymous.
