Man beaten and robbed while smoking on Newark street as police hunt trio
Newark, NJ – A man was ambushed and brutally attacked while smoking a cigarette early Sunday morning last month, and now police are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspects caught on camera.
The robbery happened around 4:15 a.m. on October 19 near Arlington Avenue and Summer Avenue. According to police, the victim told officers he was outside smoking when he was suddenly grabbed from behind and assaulted by three men. He was punched repeatedly in the chest, stomach, and head before the suspects made off with his cash, jewelry, and personal belongings.
The injured man later walked into the 2nd Precinct at 1 Lincoln Avenue to report the robbery. He received treatment for his injuries, though the extent of those injuries has not been disclosed.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. released surveillance images of the suspects on Tuesday and urged anyone who can identify them to contact the department’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips are anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
Detectives continue to investigate the case and are reviewing additional footage and canvassing the area.
