Sober living operator arrested in Cape May County sexual assault investigation
MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A Cape May Court House man was arrested following an investigation into allegations of sexual assault connected to sober living residences he operated, authorities said.
Brian Leach, 53, of the 100 East block of Woodland Avenue in Cape May Court House, was charged with one count of sexual assault, a second-degree crime, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Wednesday, March 4, investigators from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey State Police, Cape May County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team executed multiple court-authorized search warrants. The warrants targeted sober living residences operated under Leach’s Sobriety House, LLC, as well as his personal residence in Middle Township.
Authorities said the arrest followed the execution of those search warrants during the ongoing investigation.
Leach was processed and lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Facility, where he is being held pending a court hearing.
Under New Jersey law, a conviction for a second-degree offense carries a potential prison sentence ranging from five to 10 years.
The investigation remains ongoing. Officials are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit or submit an anonymous tip through the agency’s reporting systems.
Authorities emphasized that the charge is an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
