Pequannock High School teacher charged with sexual assault of student

PEQUANNOCK, NJ – A high school teacher has been arrested and charged with multiple sexual assault and misconduct offenses after investigators say he engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student under his instruction.

Authorities announced that William Arnold, 53, of Wayne, faces charges including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, official misconduct, and criminal sexual contact.

The investigation began earlier this month when Pequannock Police and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office were alerted to allegations of misconduct involving Arnold. Detectives determined that on multiple occasions over the past year, he sexually assaulted the victim, who was 15 and 16 at the time. Officials confirmed that Arnold is a teacher at Pequannock High School, where the victim was enrolled.

Arnold was suspended by the school district and taken into custody on September 29. He is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility under the state’s Criminal Justice Reform Act pending court proceedings.

The investigation is ongoing, and prosecutors are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit at 973-285-6200.
