MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A North Carolina man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing multiple gunshots at another vehicle during a road rage incident on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities announced Thursday.

The suspect, Brandon Rudd, 34, of South Mills, N.C., is accused of shooting at a Cadillac Escalade from his Nissan Altima late on October 31, 2024, while both vehicles were traveling southbound near milepost 48.3 in Burlington County. The victim’s vehicle was struck multiple times, but no injuries were reported, according to the New Jersey State Police.

Detectives identified Rudd and his vehicle through their investigation and worked with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) in North Carolina to locate him. On November 8, Rudd was apprehended in South Mills, N.C.

Search warrants executed at his residence and vehicles led to the recovery of the firearm used in the shooting, along with ballistics evidence that investigators say matched the incident on the Turnpike.

Rudd is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a handgun, and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose. He is currently being held in the Albemarle District Jail in North Carolina while awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

The case is being prosecuted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office.
