Ohio Man Enters Guilty Plea to Federal Drug Offense

CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA – A Cleveland, Ohio man pleaded guilty today to a federal drug crime.  James Lavan, 45, pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Lavan admitted that on June 12, 2019, members of the Charleston Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) executed a search warrant on his girlfriend’s vehicle and seized over 70 grams of heroin from his tool bag in the truck. Lavan admitted he intended to sell the heroin.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Charleston Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted the investigation.  Senior United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. presided over the hearing.  Assistant United States Attorneys Nowles Heinrich, Jeremy B. Wolfe and former Assistant United States Attorney Ryan A. Saunders are handling the prosecution.

The son mentioned that his father had been dealing with mental illness for several years. Almanza was apprehended on Sunday in relation to Romero’s death. He reported to detectives that an argument occurred before the alleged killing, although the motive and cause of death remain unclear.

  Mother arrested after abandoning daughter at Pennsylvania gas station Tannersville, PA – A New York woman was apprehended after allegedly threatening to stab her 13-year-old daughter and subsequently leaving her at a closed convenience store. Tonimarie A. Barrett, 42, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, making terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person. Prompted by a call about an abandoned child, police responded to a Turkey Hill convenience store early on Sunday around 5:19 a.m. First responders found Barrett’s daughter unharmed but alone at the location. Barrett and her daughter had left a residence in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, around midnight for New Rochelle, New York. During their journey, Barrett stopped at a closed gas station to input directions into a GPS, where an argument ensued between mother and daughter that escalated quickly. According to police reports, Barrett threatened to stab her daughter during the dispute. She then left her child at the closed business and traveled to a nearby gas station in Effort, Pennsylvania. While at the gas station, Barrett did not attempt to search for her daughter or contact authorities. She later told police that after her daughter exited the vehicle, she realized her car required oil, prompting her departure to Effort. Barrett was arrested by police and transported to Monroe County Correctional Facility, where she is awaiting arraignment before a district magistrate.

  Mother accused of threatening her children during TikTok livestream Jefferson City, MO A Missouri mother faces serious charges after allegedly threatening to kill her children during a TikTok livestream. Elena Lujan, 30, is accused of making disturbing remarks to her 3 and 7-year-old kids in the early hours of Saturday. Lujan reportedly told her children, “I’m sick of you,” and “Go to sleep before I f—ing kill you,” while appearing intoxicated. Police arrived at her apartment around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of the livestream. Upon their arrival, officers found Lujan passed out in the children’s room with an open bottle of tequila on the kitchen counter. Broken glass littered the floor, and her children were found sleeping in separate areas of the apartment. The probable cause statement details Lujan’s threats, including comments that suggested a desire to harm her children. She allegedly told one child, “I’ll kill her and then you’ll be the reason why she’s dead.” Lujan was taken into custody after struggling to wake up due to her level of intoxication. While being transported, she reportedly spit at an officer and refused to take a breathalyzer test. The statement notes that she is the only adult living in the home and concludes with her making numerous threats to kill her children. Lujan has been charged with child abuse and is currently being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. An arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.
