Lawrence County man hits $2 million jackpot on scratch-off bought in Columbus
IRONTON, OH — A quiet trip to Columbus turned into a life-changing moment for one Lawrence County man who scored a $2 million win from a $30 Royal Riches scratch-off ticket, making him one of the game’s newest top prize winners.
The man, identified only as J. from Ironton, claimed his prize as a lump sum cash option. After state and federal taxes were deducted, he walked away with a total payout of $728,750 — a sizable sum from a ticket bought at Lucky Choice, a retailer located at 577 W. Nationwide Blvd., Suite 202, in Columbus.
The Royal Riches scratch-off offers a top prize of $80,000 a year for 25 years. While the annuity option was available, J. elected to receive the prize all at once, as is permitted under Ohio Lottery rules.
The $30 game still has four top prizes left as of Friday, keeping chances alive for other hopefuls. Royal Riches continues to be one of the higher-end scratch-offs offered by the Ohio Lottery, designed to deliver substantial prizes to players willing to take a bigger gamble.
Since 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education statewide, with a portion of scratch-off ticket proceeds directly supporting public schools and related programs.
