“The Horn Antenna was crucial in helping us to understand how the universe began,” said O’Scanlon (R-13). “I fully support Holmdel’s effort to acquire the property where it resides and to preserve it for future generations. We cannot allow this important historic landmark to be destroyed by development.”
The township committee voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve the acquisition of property where the Horn Antenna sits. A resolution and two ordinances were approved: A resolution authorizing negotiations for the property, known as the Crawford Hill Property; an ordinance to acquire 34 acres of the 42 acre property through eminent domain for open space, recreation and historic preservation; and an ordinance to use $1.9 million in bonds to fund the purchase.
“I am proud to see so many local officials and town committee members stand up and make their voices known in this fight,” added O’Scanlon.
