Pennsylvania state trooper pleads guilty in road rage that forced car off road, shooting his dashboard

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Former Pennsylvania State Trooper, David Levy, has pled guilty to charges stemming from a road rage encounter that occurred on December 28, 2022. The incident, which involved the discharge of a firearm, led to Levy being convicted of Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Possessing an Instrument of Crime.

The guilty plea was accepted by Judge Allison Bell Royer, who subsequently sentenced Levy to two years of probation. During this period, Levy is mandated to complete an anger management course and is prohibited from contacting the victims involved in the incident.

The confrontation unfolded while Levy was off-duty, driving southbound on Route 1 near Longwood Gardens. According to court documents, Levy became irate with the victim’s driving behavior, leading to aggressive actions including abrupt braking and eventually forcing the victim’s vehicle off the road.

The situation escalated when Levy attempted to retrieve his gun, accidentally discharging it into his own dashboard, before confronting the victim with the weapon drawn.

The situation deescalated when a passenger in the victim’s car announced the presence of a dash camera and their intention to call the police, prompting Levy to flee the scene.

As a result of his conviction, Levy is expected to be disqualified from serving as a police officer in Pennsylvania, which prohibits individuals convicted of serious misdemeanor offenses from holding law enforcement positions.
