Phil Murphy: Cost of Living in New Jersey So High, $15 Min. Wage a Must

TRENTON-The cost of living in New Jersey,  mostly through the state being one of the most taxed states in the nation requires a mandatory $15 minimum wage, according to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

Murphy noted New Jerseyans’ ability to survive on the existing minimum wage of $8.60 per hour is not feasible due to the ever increasing cost of living in the Garden State.

On October 1st, New Jersey will be hit with yet another gas tax hike, 4.3 cents will result in an overall gas tax of 48.4 cents per gallon.

“Adjusted for cost of living, New Jersey’s minimum wage is the 5th-most insufficient in the nation,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “That is unacceptable. New Jerseyans should not have to live paycheck to paycheck, in some cases deciding between whether to put food on the table or keep the lights on. The path to a stronger and fairer New Jersey includes raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and ensuring fairness and opportunity for everyone in our state.”

This year, Murphy announced $1.5 billion in new taxes levied against New Jerseyans.
